Night Temperatures in July?

Night Temperatures in July? - 07/24/2019 02:03 PM

So I’m in the process of packing, and I was wondering how cool it is at night in July. I want to look as good as possible for the 31st, so I’ve been jogging every night (my area’s been having heat waves during the day). I plan to do the same when we’re down there, but I wasn’t sure how hot or cool the nights are. I was wondering whether I should pack shorts and a tank top or a hoodie and sweats (I saw quite a few people wearing the latter when I was last there in March). I do get cold easily, so I was wondering the best option.

No need for sweats. July and August is usually hot and sometimes humid.

Lows in July are typically in the low 80's (80 to 82 on average).

Thanks guys. The 31st is just a week away and I’ve got butterflies in my stomach like whoa! It’s driving me beyond cray cray!

If I understand your post, you are planning on jogging at night in SXM. Totally apart from the question of the temperature, a single woman jogging at night in SXM is NOT a good idea.

No worries. My mom and/or my boyfriend will be with me at all times.

Or maybe not jog at night at all in a place not familiar to you?

Yes, I would agree, not a good idea, even if with someone.

Not to be alarmist, but you may not have heard about the man and his daughter out walking in Maho around 11 PM. The father was shot and killed. Just don't do it.

and there was a young woman attacked in the Happy Bay area jogging early evening.

Not sure where you are staying but find out if they have an exercise room or perhaps someone on this forum can tell you where there is a gym you could use.

I didn’t know that. Maybe I’ll swim instead. I look pretty good for the 31st anyway...

Allison, Allison Allison. I don't think your grasping the danger you could be putting you or your family in. Being on the beach or swiming at night is not safe.

Agree with all the above, Allison. You can resume jogging when you return. After all, your on vacation with tons of great restaurants around! Average nightly lows in SXM in July and August range from 78 to 82 (or 26 to 28 celsius), so pack light. You won't need the sweats and the hoodie. We just got back last week from eight days in Mallorca and Ibiza and those islands are at a much higher latitude than St. Maarten and it never dropped below 72 on any night we were there. Hopefully, you won't experience 42 celsius like we did one day which translates into 108 fahrenheit. That was really hot!

Two towels or buy a cheap mat whilst there and run on the spot in your villa, condo whatever for 1 hour or two and you will still look good banana

Another option might be a gym. Although I just pass by and wave at my husband on the way to the beach, he does use the gym at Divi every day. Maybe there is a gym where you are staying? A few of us prefer just a morning walk on our beach. It’s about a half a mile, and we do the loop a few times but stay on the property. After a full day at the beach, none of us would be ready for any serious activity. Stay safe as others have suggested and look for other alternatives.

If you are staying near the golf course you can run along the path by the side of the road that runs through the course. They don’t permit you to run on the course itself. I walk along the path every morning and you see a lot of runners and walkers. In the morning and late afternoon are the most popular times. But never at night and for a young lady it’s probably better to run with someone although I do see a lot of the female med students running by themselves in the morning. But safety in numbers is always better.

DO. NOT. GO. TO. A. BEACH. AT. NIGHT!!! Even with someone.

DO NOT JOG EVEN IN THE A.M. ALONE! (well, maybe that golf course idea).
