OT Barbuda

OT Barbuda - 08/03/2019 03:03 AM

Yes it’s OT but since we all have an interest in the Caribbean always wondered what happened to Barbuda well after Irma. Visited several times years ago and the beaches were spectacular. Some of you may know that the Island was virtually 100% destroyed and by order of Antigua the people were mandatory evacuated. About 1700 people lived there and most have decided to make a new life in Antigua but many have returned and are getting absolutely no help from Antigua or from the UK as there was talk that those in power want to rebuild and make it a tourist destination one day but also take away the rights of home ownership of the people.
I can only find info up to about 18 months ago.

Anyone know more?

I was in Antigua 3 months after Irma, but Barbuda was still a wasteland at that time. To my knowledge, there are no commercial operations open on Barbuda, and there will be none in the foreseeable future.

Whether there is any plan/scam to take away home ownership rights is not something which I can speak to. Rumors are rumors.

Been to Barbuda for a day many years ago, it is a beautiful island with glorious beaches that compare to none. I thought that I had read that Robert DiNero and group etc., were going to build a mega resort on the island pre Irma. The locals were not too happy about this and then came Irma! Have not heard since.

Very interest thx. Look at the court proceedings..Antiguan Govt trying to appeal the rights of their own people for the usual story. Money!! Linked to Denero I presume. One knows the corruption in SXM on both sides but this takes it to a new level and the U.K. does sod all.
