Planes at Airport - 08/27/2019 08:39 PM

I hope no one asked this before...If so I didn't see answer. What are the unusual planes at the airport? I think there are 8 of them. Thanks for any info.

I know. They zoomed the SXM Island camera in some and at a little different angle.

Several times in the past SXM has been a stopover point for new planes making their way to be put into use. Embraer (Brazil) has used SXM for a stopover point in the past.

It’s a guess, but I would say that they’re aircraft operated by a FedEx subcontractor, which have been repositioned to SXM due to T/S Dorian. They look to be Shorts 360s in Air Cargo Carriers livery. Air Cargo Carriers has been a FedEx subcontractor in the past, and probably still is. There’s another flight inbound from the DR right now, due to land at 5:35.

Definitely looks like the same plane. I wondered a bit whether it had something to do with Dorian. Makes sense.

We saw planes that looked similar back in March 2019. With binoculars hubby saw men all dressed in grey exit planes. When we asked we were told French military planes, people to survey and work because of IRMA. Perhaps this is the same?

Lots of planes evacuated to SXM to avoid extreme conditions elsewhere. The plain white planes are probably private jets we usually see during high season. Lots of them came in last evening.

According to the airport’s FB page, 11 Shorts 360s were flown in from San Juan due to Dorian. Those are the cluster of white turboprops with dark tails.

I thought what Bahston said sounded most probable and seems he just confirmed.

Didn't know there was an airport Facebook page.
Thanks for that info also.

On the webcam I also see several Seaborne Saab 340B aircraft parked, which likely repositioned from San Juan. (White topside, dark belly and wings, twin turboprops, dark tail with a dolphin painted on it).
