is it advisable for one to get CDW insurance when renting a car? I’ve seen a lot of opinions on liability but, not CDW.

Check your credit card. Most carry CDW I believe.

Not only do most credit cards cover CDW, but you also have to decline the agency's offering for it to be effective.

Good you posted that. Many people don't know they have to decline the rental insurance.

Your personal auto insurance will likely not cover you in SXM.

Our credit card covers the car if it’s damaged or stolen, we will pay $5 per day for liability through the rental car company. Thank you all for your input 🏖

Also check to see if spouse is also included in rental as a driver and covered with the liability portion.

Be careful. Had an incident in Martinique. Paid for the extra CDW but with a deductible (They said it was required and included.) Also used United Visa which has CDW coverage. United Visa would not cover deductible (500Euro) since I purchased CDW thru the rental agency. Visa said that if I would have declined, they would have covered the whole bill.

Yep. That's how it works. Have to decline the insurance from rental company.
