St Martin French PPRN ?? - 12/14/2019 04:20 PM

So what is this PPRN the pretests are a out? Is this the thing where some folks are being prohibited from rebuilding on their land?

Many of the articles and links posted in the French side thread explain the PPRN

Areas where they do not want to allow re-building. Another hurricane and storm surge would just take them out again, especially as hurricanes grown in strength.

So, im more educated now. So i would be PO’d if someone from far away France was making decisons about my land.

We all remember after Irma talking about how Club Orient and othe Orient Bay properties should be built on pilings to withstand the storm surge. Right.

Yet all the hotels and beach bars for tourists are back open and ready for a CAT 5.

Yet, the locals in Sandy Ground cant put a roof on where they live. If the French govt is so concerned, perhaps a civile engineering team should figure out a low cost design to raise all the properties up a dozen feet.

The French overseas minister mentioned like 11 deaths from Irma. While tragic, it could have been worse and might have been. But what it says is most people somehow survived this monster in the low lying, poor design homes they possessed and now you cant rebuild.

That only makes sense if Orient cant rebuild and you cant have one rule for hoteliers and villa owners and a different one for average locals.

"Yet all the hotels and beach bars for tourists are back open and ready for a CAT 5."
That is a pretty broad statement. Not all are open.
"So i would be PO’d if someone from far away France was making decisons about my land."
They are a part and governed by France.

The French side is in a State of Emergency and the powers that be are not Gibbs but France.

Some laggards and exceptions, like club o which has internal stupidly issues. They would be open if they didn’t. But a lot of people in the storm surge zone back open with nothing more durable or hurricane proof/resistant than pre-Irma.

Part of France, yes yes. That comes with some pros and minuses as does Dutch side.

French colonies have always had their issues.WHAT IS THE NET INFLOW/OUTFLOW OF euro’s to/from the Collectivity and French Govt. How much does St martin cost France?

What is France and all other countries doing in the Caribbean these days? Deep questions.

I agree with you Pelican. I do understand the people concern and think that that they probably tried to work this the non-confrontational route but was not being listened to.

This kid makes a lot of sense regarding the PPRN and problems.

Money vs insurance vs ability to prove ownership.

What is scary are the comments:
"French side never benefited much from tourism any how. They come over to visit a free fort ! Visit the free beaches and then pee for free in the public bathroom . After that they walk around in empty marigot and don't buy [censored] and then they probably get a quick meal by enoch or chez coco before heading back to the Dutch side. What have they contributed too ?! Nothing ! There's nothing for us that live 365 days a year on the island. Schools and infrastructures are yet to be fixed but we must care and smile with tourist that don't put bread in we mouth."

Now THAT is BS. What about all the people who stay on the French side, let alone the day visitors, which I guess is who they are bitching at.. Mostly I think they are talking about cruise ship visitors, I guess.

Yep, when it is or was safe, people would spend a lot of $$ on the French side. Total BS. We used to make multiple trips to eat in Marigot, both downtown and at Marina Royale until it went to crap.

Most what was said on that video is his opinion... You can not get insurance on property you don't own! French squatters rights are very scary. Let's say I own vacant land but a squatter for generations has built a structure and lived in it for a period of time. If they go through legal means they can claim the land. There are many who did not have insurance on their structures because they were squatters for 10 to 30 years but never legally claimed their squatter rights.
