United - 03/20/2020 08:53 PM

Does anybody have any idea what United is doing after Sunday.

According to that Daily Herald story, there is NO GUARANTEE of ANY flights after Sunday. Best bet would be to try Delta probably.

There were empty seats on our United flight today.

That probably made it easy to keep that safe distance.

Sorry John....but it won't make a damn difference what United is doing after Sunday. If anyone is planning on still coming down here to SXM after Tuesday...they are totally NUTS and insane. After Sunday, chances are huge that this island will be totally closed off from ANY planes ...and this according to estimates will be until May 6th the earlierst....and that only depends on conditions then. No one loves this island more than i do....but this is NOT the place you want to be here now. French side is totally closed down already...INCLUDING BEACHES. Dutch side beaches are still open.....but it is deader than a doorknob now. The streets are empty.....Most restaurants are CLOSED dompletely....and the the ones still open are for take out only. No music or nightlife anywhere.....casinos all closed......movies are closed......and anything with more than ten people are gone. IT IS A GHOST TOWN....and not very much fun right now. I do hope the people here will be able to ride out this terrible storm....but probably ninety plus percent of the island people are now not working...and won't be for the foreseeable future.....again. Yesterday we were able to spend some time in the lagoon on a local friends boat....but we had to stay only in dutch waters. Being caught out on the water in French waters would be a 450 euro fine!!!! The French side orders are to stay indoors in homes.....and NOT venturre out. I heard that the borders are bing manned by gendarmes to keep people out. I never thought i would feel the pain that most of our forefathers felt, when being kicked out of their home countries before coming to america.....but having three days to get out with us......kind of felt the same. IF ANYONE WAS STILL PLANNING ON COMING DOWN BETWEEN NOW AND PROBABLY MID MAY.....I WOULD SAY CANCEL YOUR PLANS NOW....YOU WILL NOT BE WELCOME HERE!!!! AND IF YOU WERE PLANNING A FUN VACATION....THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO BE NOW.

Incoming passengers who cannot document themselves as residents of St Martin/Sint Maarten haven't been accepted for days. That's why the three US passengers on the inbound DL flight for JD's departure were sent back.

Ed's strong suggestion that people cancel any upcoming plans in the next two months is not only reasonable, IMHO it may well be conservative. Don't think for one second about "coming to help the island". Think instead about "staying away to help the island".

First of all, no one but residents CAN come and only until Sunday. You think conditions are better "back home"? Everyone should be sheltering at home, everywhere. Social distancing on a boat?

Ed, appreciate the diatribe but we are just trying to find a way out. Our flight is was scheduled for next Friday and we have received nothing from United. 2 hour plus waits on the phone and nothing on the web site about what might be available. I know they show stopping flights after tomorrow but we have been unable to find if they have space.

Your best option and while not a good one may be to show up at the airport and try to go as standby or get on whatever is available. You can not rely on what phone agents, counter agents or the websites indicate, I have been through it personally several times earlier this week. The best luck I had was continually checking Delta's site and on occasion a date would open up. I am on United's site right now and it is showing seats to EWR today. If I can help you in any way, private message me a way to contact you or you to contact me and I will see what I can do. A Monday flight is also shown but I personally would not trust it to happen at this point.

Correct and this went into effect with INCOMING flights on Tuesday March 17 according to the PM's written statement. The Daily Herald indicated it allowed incoming US citizens through Tuesday March 17.

Incoming restrictions for SXM residents has now changed since as well.

I would like to know how the gate agent(s) in ALT were dealt with that allowed these 3 pax to board, then cause a 1 hour delay in departing SXM which resulted in some missing their connections.

Good deal. I have been hanging close in case I could help with your booking as I had trouble a couple of times getting my cc to process. I was prepared to talk to you or communicate in any fashion to help. Glad you got it done. Good luck. Now I can take my dogs their morning walk.

I sent you a private message here as well. Look for the flashing envelope.
