Covid-19 Update - St. Maarten

Construction can resume, restaurants allowed for pick up and drive-thru as of Monday

First Phase of St. Maarten's de-escalation will begin as of Monday, May 11, and continue until Monday, May 18.

Businesses allowed to open in the first phase as of Monday, provided that they meet all of government's criteria and guidelines, are:

1. Construction companies, including the rental and leasing of heavy machinery and equipment

3. Financial services such as money transfer services (e.g. Western Union)

4. Texile sellers, seamstresses, tailors and shoe repair shops

5. Consulting and accounting services (by appointment only)

6. Landscaping services

7. Hardware stores can now arrange for curbside pickup only in addition to deliveries (In-store purchases may become possible in Phase 2 in a week's time - week of May 18. Read: Public CANNOT walk into any hardware store as of Monday. )

All of the other companies/businesses already allowed to open will continue to operate as the de-escalation measures continue. All businesses allowed by government to be opened, are not mandated to open their doors. They can decided when they want to resume services.

Business opening days are now moved to Monday to Friday. Businesses can operate from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Deliveries only on Saturdays. Full closure on Sunday.

Curfew in place as of Monday, May 11, only at night from 8:00pm to 6:00am. This is for every night. This means free movement is allowed Monday to Friday only from 6:00am to 8:00pm.

The separation of the country into two zones is to come to an end.

Waivers are still needed to cross the border.

Covid-19 Update - St. Maarten

Repatriation fights to bring in St. Maarten residents possible soon

Govt. will soon allow repatriation of residents to St. Maarten in a phased manner. This manner has not been fully planned out as yet. Residents who will be allowed to return will go into quarantine in government mandated facility.

As many residents as the facility can handle will be allowed back in St. Maarten.

Details of the first repatriation flight will be announced in the coming days.

One flight has already been arranged to return several SZV insured clients to St. Maarten.

Yes, but if the workers are not local and have left the island, it may be months before full scale construction restarts. They have to get back on the island and that is not yet happening and may not for some time yet.

From what I heard the foreign workers that were brought in are still housed in those units Diamond constructed for them and are ready to begin work along with the additional locals that were also working om the projects.

That is good news, if the workers did not leave. I wondered about that.

No idea but if that is the case, it should expedite things as long as Diamond does not get in the way. By the time they closed construction down, there was not a lot of opportunities to get off the island so perhaps some or many are still there.

Re: Covid-19 Island Update - 05/10/2020 03:45 PM

Right on. Also there has been a steady flow of materials arriving at the docks in containers waiting to be delivered. Even though island was shut off container ships still brought in goods. Only thing that will delay construction will be those pesky hurricanes or tropical storms. If a hurricane is foretasted it takes 2 weeks of prep to batten things down before and another 2 weeks to getting started up after it has passed. With out all supplied stored and secured they could become hazardous flying objects doing more damage and injuries. Those are things what could make further delays. This past construction closure set things back into hurricane season which isn't good especially the forecast for a busier than usual hurricane season.

Actually, there is under #7.k, but I do not expect anything with regard to tourist flights for some time, possibly fall or later.

Operative words are "as of now". PM was clear if we start to fall back she will extend dates or roll back the phases. If we open our borders too soon, it could be a disaster.
