I am not sure, but from my understanding the official way to stop this is to out bribe the present bribers. Article 86, Section F, Part U of the Kangaroo Court Bylaws.

Well Carol , lets see how it goes through with the appeal.

Todd,

Great minds and all that but you said it much better than I might have.

If it’s the same thing, they’ve been pushing for a dolphinarium on SXM for the last 20-25 years that I can recall and I’ve often wondered, as we wrote our letters of protest in opposition to it, how long it would take for someone to come up with a bribe that just couldn’t be passed on.

It would seem to me the island governments on both sides already have enough problems they aren’t able to resolve so why in the world would they want to add another headache? Unless, of course, someone’s deep pockets are in need of refilling?

Did the dolphin prison (by the ferry port! ). ever go away on Anguilla?

I was always so pissed to be out sailing & see boats carrying cruisers past us and over to AXA for that horrible place.

We went to Curacao and stayed next to the aquarium which has dolphins as well. A couple things that I thought were positive about the place: 1 - they would take the dolphins out in the open waters with a boat and run them/fast swim or what ever you want to refer to it as. They would go back when done, trained to I am sure but they were swimming free in open water. They did this every day we were there and our room looked out to where we could watch from our balcony. 2 - That facility also did a lot with German special needs kids, down syndrome mainly. I guess the dolphins work very well with down syndrome kids and it is a very positive experience for both. The German health insurance pays for a portion of this.

Hopefully if they do something with dolphins they do something like that.

There used to be a place called Flipper’s Sea School in the keys. Loved that place as a kid. Large pens In seawater.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolphin_Research_Center

I suppose there might be a place for a research center and ocean life is a bit better than walled aquarium life but I suspect if I were a dolphin or shark I’d want to be free.

If I were a parrot, I’d want to be free too..........anybody want to go there? That is the best 10 bucks on SXM.

What about horseback riding on the beach. If I were a horse, I wouldn’t enjoy that much.set those horses free!

Dolphin is good eating, much better than dog or cat.

But why would you bring this up plus to compare with dogs and cats , yuck.

Lesley,

I suspect bdeeley's sense of humor has decided to tweak us all a bit and he was just kidding about the dogs and cats. Or at least I hope that's the case. smile

And with all due respect to those who hold differing opinions, I hesitate in believing the motivation behind this is purely altruistic. More like the almighty dollar, unless of course, the management will charge no admission and allow all who choose to, enjoy it for free. But even then, I would be in opposition.

I can't really relate to birds or horses but having been lucky enough to have encountered dolphins playing freely in open waters on several occasions, the idea of seeing them penned with a price on their heads (admission fees?) just doesn't do it for me, ergo I will NEVER be able to accept this, if in fact, this is what it is ultimately intended to be.

Were they planning on running a rehab lab or something of that nature I might view it differently but note, I said might. But from the sounds of things and having some idea of how generous this concern has been in the past, I somehow doubt that is the intended reality.

Dumb government. But they still have to get building permits, so they can still stop it.
