Day 7 - October 10 - 10/11/2020 12:52 PM

SXM Day 7 – October 10, 2020

This morning’s walk took us to Maho again and we bumped into artist Jimmy Sheik, who was setting up to continue the mural on the wall across from the parking garage (just before the golf course). His street art, done with spray paint and brushes, can be found around the island and is quite beautiful!

Breakfast this morning was at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club. The beautiful location never fails to disappoint. Marc ordered the 2 egg plate and I had the Eggs Norwegian. And Bloody Mary’s, of course! The restaurant was quite busy, which is nice to see. While finishing our meals, a couple arrived and sat beside us at the bar. They ordered coffee and a little while later, an employee of the Yacht Club arrived with a large plastic bin that contained an adorable little rescue kitten. This happy couple now own 14 cats and two dogs. Good for them!

We drove to Philipsburg to check out where Eagle Tours is located, as we’re planning on a day sail. Once found, near Chesterfield’s, we drove to the French Side, hoping to visit Parrotteville. While the sign indicated they should be open at this time, the gates were locked and there was a closed sign hung on it. We’ll try to visit again next week.

Back at the villa, the clouds were rolling in and later turned dark gray. I wanted to drive into Marigot, visit the markets and have lunch, but the weather wasn’t looking good. On the way, Marc suggested that we change the plan and dine on the Marina. As we arrived, it started to rain. We hurried to La Main a la Plate just in the nick of time, as the skies really opened up. And there was a thunder and lightning show too! For lunch, Marc had pepperoni pizza and I had Beef Tartare, a first for me. We have been going to this charming restaurant for many years and highly recommend it.

Happy Hour was at The Palms, where we met Gail and Guy for more stories and laughs. It’s always fun at The Palms!

Dinner consisted of leftovers from the fridge.

Another fine day in paradise!

Thanks for the report! Sounds like Mark was correct--a bad day for the Marigot market!

Thanks for the reports. We leave Friday so we are following your reports closely. While at Orient have you noticed whether or not Colin is renting chairs for Pedro? Just wondering about Monday since you mentioned Cedric was closed.

Eagle Tours used to pick you up at your residence. Did they stop that?

I don't know if Eagle Tours is offering rides. I didn't see it on their write up for today's Thanksgiving cruise.

We’ve done a couple of trips with them and each time they picked us up and dropped us off at our respective hotels, too. It was nice not to have to deal with parking and traffic in general but we haven’t done one of their trips since 2017 and things may well have changed. They ran nice trips - not true booze cruises with all they might entail - but more than enough drinks for those who wanted to drink heartily, and their boats were never crowded so there was always room to spread out and be comfortable.
