AMERICAN AIRLINES OUT OF MIAMI

I was pleasantly surprised a few minutes ago. When onto AA.com to check airfare for our annual trip which i have been watching for a couple of months now. To my surprise and glee, our dates in March to April were discounted to 347 pp round trip!! That is a HUGE savings on what it usually cost, Same JB flights leaving around same time are almost 200 more per person out of Lauderdale...so this year Miami wins. Don't know how long these fares will last, but if you may be on the fence of going to SXM, and fly via Miami, it may be well worth looking into NOW. Doing a happy dance

My Happy Dance from yesterday got even better today. AA reduced the fares today even lower, and was able to change my fare from yesterday to today's ridiculous rate. 257/pp round trip. SAME FLIGHTS....ninety bucks cheaper per person. Have been traveling back and forth to SXM for thirty years now, and have NEVER paid such a ridiculous low fare before...including all the taxes and imposed fees in SXM. Airlines surely aren't going to be making any money with these prices.

Ed--thank you for posting!! I had been looking at our dates for June and hoping they would go down from $400 a person, and just looked now, and have flights on hold for $302 per person for June! Not $257, but I can live with $302, for sure! I guess I was getting greedy, as in the past, AA had been well over $500 a person all the time from Miami, before Jet Blue came to town. Anyway, thanks for the post!

Great fare - $257. Right now the best we can find from either PHL or EWR in July is $650. But the equalizer is that room rates are lower in off-season.

for our dec/jan trip we just upgraded our return to FC for only $50/each more than what we had booked pre-COVID for FC down, coach return...this year we're actually paying about the same for FC as what we've paid the last couple of years for coach...this is AA IAH-MIA-SXM rt

Ed-- I just checked fares again today and they went back UP $50 from yesterday, so I went ahead and paid for the tickets I put on hold yesterday. Thanks again for your note. It just goes to show, it pays to keep checking fares all the time, or set up an automatic fare checker.

I find when I use Google Flights and turn on the tracker (e-mail notification) the fares bounce up and down sometimes as much as $200 - $300 per person on a fairly regular basis (every few days). They also have some nice tools for finding days when flights are less expensive and trip lengths that result in lower fares.

Carol....just read your post at 10PM....and out of curiousity went back into the AA site, and found the same flights i booked yesterday for 257, are at 387 tonight. Nice savings of 260 for the two of us. That surely will help towards car rental, extra nice meals, or an extra night at the casino:) Can't wait for March.

This was the main reason we booked our trip. I have researched SXM trips for a few years, and when I saw the airfare, I said now is the time. I think we paid about the same as EdB.

We booked MIA-SXM rt in January 2021 for 180.00pp with assigned seats. This was about 3 months ago. I guess we priced those tickets on a good day!
