AA Flexible Fares

AA Flexible Fares - 02/06/2021 01:30 PM

I've booked our flights to return home from SXM in December, and have been waiting for a decent fare to book our flights down. We fly Business Class, and so far the only thing I see is the "Flexible Fare" at nearly $2,000 per person for the one-way flight. I'm confused as to why they're offering the flexible fare at all, since they're allowing changes with no fees on the regular flights. I generally don't call to make reservations, but wonder if anyone knows if calling reservations might get me a non-flexible fare that's priced reasonably.

No idea but it might be worth a try as booking fees for using an agent have been waved. I think that is still the case. Ridiculous fare.

Are there regular flights available on other dates around when you want to fly? Perhaps they are not sure they are going to fly on that date. AA changes their calendar a lot, except for the flights from Miami. You can call, but I doubt they will tell you about any other fares. Can't hurt, I guess. They used to charge when you called to book a flight, but don't think they do any more.

The date I'm looking at is the Saturday before Thanksgiving, so I'm sure they're flying that day.

With that holiday that could be the reason it is so expensive.

Georgia,

I could be wrong but it seems AA often does schedule changes on the weekend and things tend to get a little wonky, sometimes in your favor and sometimes not. We once were able to secure rt Business Class tix to SXM for $259.00 each on one of these occasions. Not saying this is the problem but if I were you I'd cool my heels till the early part of the week and see what happens then. All things are subject to change. Or not but good luck either way and I wish you an outcome as good as ours that one time.

So true. I was able to book our June return First Class FF tickets on AA for 15,000 miles. Must have been a glitch. Could not book it online as it said I couldn't proceed so called AA directly and booked on phone. Rep said since it was published online she booked it. Two hours later I looked online and it was gone but my tickets still show confirmed. Just got lucky.

That's the same day we always fly, and the tickets are always higher than other days, but $2,000 each for a one-way ticket is a bit over the top. Last year we flew round-trip for $1,700 each.

Pat, I've been looking for a couple of weeks now, but still being patient. I may make a phone call next week just to see what I find out. I figure I have nothing to lose but a little bit of time.

I think we can all expect higher air/cruise/hotel prices once the safely vaccinated with cash get traveling again. AA is betting on a bit of a recovery by fall and needs to make up for lost cash so to speak.

I don't disagree, but again, $2,000 for a one-way fare is just a bit over the top.

Especially for an east coast fare.

They say “it only cost a little more to go first class”.

But I dont recall ever paying for biz/first class in over 2Million miles of flying.
Longest coach punishment LAX to Hong Kong - 16.5 hours. An empty coach seat, which can be purchased, makes a world of difference.

$2000 should be 3-4 roundtrip coach tickets in my measure.

I checked the dates for our usual weeks long about then, and it looks like their might be somewhat of a sale on AA up through November 30 as the flight down from DTW was very reasonable but the return on 12/11 was about what you experienced GaKaye. Think I'll wait and see. Cheers!
