One night recommendation

One night recommendation - 10/09/2021 10:06 PM

Hi everyone, been a few years since we have been to SXM. We have a week planned sailing around the islands in February. One of my favorite sails.

We are looking for a recommendation for a place to stay for one night (a Saturday). We have not been back since the hurricane, so don't really have a feel for the best places.

We'll be there from 9am Sat to noon on Sunday, so looking for a place to chill a bit. Walkable to restaurants, bars, etc. The first part of our trip will be in Grand case, so thinking the Dutch side would be a good option.

There's a new hotel, Adonis, in Jordan Village. Lots of places to walk to in Jordan Village; it's a happening place as it's close to the university. Downside is that Adonis doesn't have a water view.

I've never stayed there, but Mary's Boon is right on Simpson Bay. Lots of folks recommend it. I don't know if they would do only one night in February.

One night on a Saturday in February might be tough, but I actually would just go to expedia or whatever and look for one of the bigger timeshares, like Simpson Bay Resort, Flamingo, Atrium, Royal Palm, Royal Islander, etc, in Simpson Bay or Maho. There would be lots of places to walk to either in Simpson Bay or Maho. Or Mary's Boon, as Linda suggested. Their 'below grade' rooms are mostly booked by people who are only looking for a night or two.

Mary’s Boon stays Really busy in high season but good chance they might have a room to fill in between a longer booking. If you’re looking for a budget room the lower lobby rooms I think they call them are large with a high window and Kitchenette. Also the garden rooms are sort of Budget. Breakfast starts at 7:30 to 11 AM then lunch and Dinner. I particularly like their carrot pancakes.

might look into Flamingo, Simpson Bay Resort, la Vista or Royal Palm. All might have a one night special. I know Flamingo does for local getaways.

I can not imagine someone sailing around the island in February is looking for a budget room but having said that, Mary's boon is lovely and although the royal palm is great when you're staying for a week or so it is not as posh as MB.

Barleyman--I'm thinking now the biggest problem with your situation may be that you say you will be there at 9 AM on Saturday! Most places do not allow folks to check in until 2 or 3 PM. Depending on how much money you have to spend on this endeavor, I wonder if you could pay for Friday night also, and but just not arrive until Saturday morning?? Nothing worse than sitting around waiting to check in because your room is not available.. Just a thought..

If you want a water view beach and a very good restaurant you can’t go wrong try El Zafiro we have stayed there many times

Holland House in Phillipsburg. Might be a little pricey, but great location.

I would actually disagree about it being a great location, especially after night.. You would definitely have to eat there at the hotel, as no way anyone should walk anywhere from there after night. And I assume without knowing the original poster will not be renting a car..

Not fancy but have stayed at Travel Inn for a night or two. Convenient location and reasonably priced. $119 a night!

I agree that the Atrium is a good option. Also, think booking the night before also is wise so you can get right into your room and have the whole day to do whatever.

I agree with what Jazzgirl said. Adonis is perfect. Easy location from the airport, usually no traffic to deal with, Walking to several very good restaurants, grocery and even the beach At Cupecoy or Mullet if you desire.

Thanks everyone. Our sails usually end on Saturday morning, and we typically fly home on Sunday, giving us a day to decompress. I'll start calling around tomorrow based on your suggestions.

Can you extend the Sailboat one more day to spend the night moored?

Re: One night recommendation - 10/11/2021 02:50 PM

I wish, but no, it is due to go out Sunday with a new crew. I did a quick check and there are a bunch of places available. It's nice to be on land for a day before we head back home.

Re: One night recommendation - 10/11/2021 04:35 PM

Barleyman--Like I said, your biggest problem might be getting in to your room at a reasonable time, especially if it's a timeshare resort. You might think about booking the night before also, depending on how much you are willing to spend.

Re: One night recommendation - 10/11/2021 05:05 PM

You might want to do what Carol suggested and even do a late check in Friday and enjoy all of Saturday on island.

Re: One night recommendation - 10/11/2021 11:41 PM

That's a good idea. thanks. I can always check in Friday night via phone, so they keep our room for us.

BarleyMan--Good luck! Please post what you decide to do.

Re: One night recommendation - 10/15/2021 05:25 PM

Well, I gave a few options to my better half and she went for Mary's Boon, for 2 nights. She wanted a pool, beach, and low overhead on muss and fuss on checking in, etc. Seemed like the right choice. After a week on a boat, we just need a place to chill and reacclimate to land. Should be great.

Thanks again everyone.. I always enjoy when SXM comes around in our sailing rotation. Great place to visit, and this board helps every time!

Good choice.

Re: One night recommendation - 10/15/2021 05:56 PM

Yes, sounds like a good choice and especially to go with two nights. Enjoy! I THINK maybe Friday night is still the jazz night at Karakter next door, so that might be a very good choice for that night.
