Delays at CLT

Delays at CLT - 02/24/2022 01:10 PM

Does anyone have any recent experience or know what the issue might be with CLT delays? Multiple times this week and I know at least one day last week inbound flights have been held/delayed by 20 minutes or more. For anyone with a tight connection, this could be a major problem. One flight from DAY was delayed more than 4 hours yesterday, at least according to the AA site.

Thanks.

All I could find for today was the following:

Due to EQUIPMENT / OUTAGE and EQUIPMENT / OUTAGE, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte, NC (CLT). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 22 minutes.

FlightAware is showing the following:

all inbound flights being held at their origin until Thursday at 08:30AM EST due to an equipment failure

Hey J.D.

For the past 3 days of operations it seems to be both mechanical and weather issues. On Tuesday, the 22nd of Feb., a temporary ground stop was initiated, by the FAA, as the airport did a cutover to a New Control Tower. The ground stop did not last very long but traffic was continued to be slowed as they transitioned to the new Tower.

Yesterday and Today its my understanding that it is more weather related. There have been a lot of delays and cancellations out of the Midwest and especially DFW, which has prevented many originating flights of being in CLT for their ongoing flights.

Thanks.

I know weather was impacting some areas but CLT was listed as I posted above, no mention of weather.

Yes, from my understanding, it was more about the weather in regions with flights heading to CLT. Those flights are being delayed or cancelled and are causing a cascading affect in CLT.

Easier for AA not to have to compensate people if they can pass it off as weather.

Always, and I'm sure the ground stop also prevented any compensation but created a lot of missed connecting flights and many headaches.

You got it!

Thanks.

This is surprising. I recall that about 10 or so years ago the Charlotte Airport Authority spent a s******d of public $ to construct a third runway.
This is the last airport in the SA that should experience delays.

And today's flight from DAY to CLT is delayed by 7 hours at this point, while other airlines out of DAY are going as scheduled. We had a little ice/freezing rain overnight but nothing severe at all. No reason given for the delay today, at least not that I could find.

I doubt this is the reason. But very heavy fog here this morning. Maybe 1/4 mile visibility.

Word I got from a pilot pal of mine is that AA is really struggling with aircrew staffing. It really shows towards the end of the month when crews begin to run up against their max allowable hours, and they have to cancel flights or delay flights until they can find crew that work the flight. A crew that would typically work a 3 or 4 leg flight day often has to bail after a flight or two, leaving that plane stuck where they left it waiting for crew. Planes out of position and crews out of position, etc.

That makes sense and may be some of the problems. Who knows, it is AA and as a lot of what they do makes little sense.

Two times last week the early morning flight from DAY to CLT was delayed from 3 hours to 7 hours. I called AA on the occasion and was told it was "aircraft maintenance". I was very surprised they would term it as such as that puts it on AA to accommodate all those missed connections, and it would have been virtually every passenger on at least 2 of the flights. It also makes little sense since the aircraft overnights in DAY and PSA (AA commuter) has a maintenance hub in DAY.

Fingers crossed that you'll encounter no issues. Good that you're flying early in the month. That should help.

gomer--that makes more sense, that it is staffing issues, rather than maintenance.
