Mullet Bay was Angry Today

Mullet Bay was Angry Today - 03/15/2022 04:26 PM

One last trip to Mullet Bay today was not to be. I got there a little after 10:00, got second row as the waves were encroaching the first row. The waves were huge and sometimes violent. Within about 10 minutes a wave washed well past the second row and a lot of shoes were washed away. I had a beach bag on a small cooler that got turned over. Two cell phones, car keys and money/ID all took a ride. All seems to be unaffected but I was very concerned about the phones. Chester was generous and gave me a pass after having supported him three previous days. I was there less than an hour and decided to leave as I did not anticipate conditions improving. People who did venture into the water were getting rolled pretty regularly.

In many years and many visits to Mullet Bay, I have only seen it rougher perhaps one other time. Oh well.

Wow, sounds pretty bad. Sorry for the unhappy ending. I have heard that people have put their cell phone into a bunch of rice before and that draws out the moisture somehow. I would definitely try to keep the phone in the a/c and watch it to see if you have any issues with it.

GEBE power outage now and no generator here for about 30 minutes. Some areas have been restored but are still out here. I heard something on the radio about some areas have been restored.

The phones got a little damp but seem to be ok so far.

No generator at Atrium? Surprised at that.

Hope the phones are ok.

Yes, a generator but it did not kick on for about 30 minutes.

The generators at Flamingo usually kick on the minute power is disrupted.

We’ve been staying at the Horny Toad since late February and have to say today at Mullet Bay was our best day so far. I love the big waves that break close to the rocks. Wish I had my surfboard at times but just playing in them is good enough. The shore breakers are another story. Something you really have to be careful with since they break in shallow water. One young girl went in with her sunglasses on, got wiped out, and naturally lost them. That’s the second time I saw that happen at Mullet. We love watching people in the waves and it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your family and friends when it’s this rough. Remember, there’s no lifeguards. I’m sure all the swimmers enjoyed themselves out there today. You can just tell by their faces!

Maybe Mullet was angry about the new beach bar. smile I saw on one of the Facebook groups that it's now open. The chairs look really low to the ground.

There ave been lives lost on that beach before. Rough surf is not to be taken lightly.

We really weren’t happy with the new beach bar at Mullet since we always walked down in that area to get away from the crowds. However, I have to say it does look nice, and seems to have hired a good looking crew of workers. The cushions are very low to the ground and have adjustable back rests. The restaurant is there and we have to live with it. Hopefully it keeps it’s small charm, low music and they do well for the people willing to work and dine there. Now the Mullet towers going up, that’s a different story and one something we’re not happy about.

Wow, OK, and I guess the boardwalk has NOT been repaired? How shocking. Not.

Looks like I'll be sticking to the other side of the beach for chairs and food. $28.00 a cheese burger. No way. Better off going to Anse Marcel.

My thoughts exactly, Scuba. I loved Mullet Bay Beach prior to this new upscale development and Rosie still has some of the best dry tub ribs on the island.

I can’t wait to hear how the local holiday weekend beach goers feel about this development. Who knows - maybe they’ll like it - or not.

Easter weekend could prove to be interesting. Wait until the first 14 owner tries to declare it a private beach. Yikes!!

Walked down to check out the new restaurant on Mullet today. Just opened so I asked to look at a menu and they handed me a folded paper with a QR to their web site. I downloaded th menu and it is rather expensive for a beach bar. Here is the menu. . The beach chairs are low but they have a thick cushion. $30 for two loungers, umbrella, 2 waters and two towels. Place looks nice, but not my taste. Strictly a fan of Rosie's.

That’s an expensive menu for a beach bar, for sure! Let’s see if they will be able to survive on these prices. After all, it’s a free market and I’m sure they will end up adjusting to the current times and needs…
The place looks very nice indeed.

that beach bar menu look great, hopefully taste great too. At those high prices I wondering if the beach chair sets are free if you are eating also? Otherwise a expensive day at the beach for many people. Wonder how the locals crowd will welcome the beach bar takeover .

Looking at the menu it doesn't say they are free. $30.00 a set. I remember when Indigo Bay started out expensive like that. Not now so much.

There is no way I am ever going to pay $28.00 for a hamburger. That price range is way too high for Mullet. Rosie's is our go to place and that isn't going to change anytime soon. Good luck to them--they are going to need it--in my opinion.
