Marriott has long had it's eye on Dawn Beach. About 20 years ago they were snooping around OBBR just before it's short lived affiliation with Radisson.

The article points out the new hotel will be a "JW Marriott". It is their higher end brand meant to compete with the Westin or Conrad Hilton.

Marriott bought out Starwood Hotels & Resorts which owned the Westin brand. All Starwood brands are owned by Marriott since 2016. I worked for Starwood for 13 years. Most of us in corporate and some properties lost our jobs due to merger.

Given my perks hard not to enjoy the Westin Dawn beach a number of stays.

Does November 2023 seem a bit optimistic time frame for a total renovation?

As a Lifetime Titanium Elite member, I am happy to hear this. Most Marriotts are great but there are a few properties that are managed by franchise groups that could use some help. I hope this one turns out great as the Marriott properties in the Caribbean are limited.

The timeshare portion of the Westin is open according to the bartender here at Oyster Bay Beach Resort. And I think I can see activity there.

Dawn Beach Club is open, yes. I thought that was wholly owned condos, not timeshare, but not really sure.

Carol, Dawn Beach Club started out trying to sell wholly owned condos and when they didn't all sell them all, the remaining inventory was timeshared out.
