Last Night going home

Last Night going home - 09/04/2022 12:26 PM

While we got rained out on Friday, we got a beautiful day yesterday until after dinner when high winds came in
No sneaking in the last days rays as Earl's winds are hanging around along with some heavy clouds

To celebrate our anniversary we saved Jax in Maho for our last evening out
A server's assistance opened the door and we knew we were in a steakhouse by the decor but mostly by the wonderful smell of beef, it certainly made us more hungry
A detailed oriented hostess showed us to our table, took our water order and told us about the menu additions

Our server Marko was busy with a large table and several smaller tables but provided professional service with limited interaction, he was all business taking good care of all his guests
Marko's assistance provided the friendliness and gracious smiles
He served the bread with two butters one of which did not last long, blue cheese butter

my wife started with the best tuna tar tar of our 18 days while my red snapper ceviche was one of my favorites, both good size portions

next came the monster perfectly cooked, the tomahawk chop accompanied with house vegetables, our choice of two starches and two sauces
my wife selected the parmesan fries while i chose the loaded baked potato, both sauces although totally different were very good, chimichurri and truffle cream
But the tomahawk was the star of the show, cut into thicker slices, cooked medium, cut like butter and enough for at least four meals including a lunch before we leave for the airport
It was better then ones I have enjoyed in the states

After having our leftover boxed for us, Marko served us a complimentary raspberry parfait that disappeared despite how full we both were
Pricing is in line with a top level steak house back home
Gratuity is not included, 4 drinks, water, 2 appetizers and the shared tomahawk totaled $245.00 without tip
Jax will be on our return list but earlier in the week to have a better chance to left the leftovers

That steak looks overdone to me, but I guess that is how you ordered it?

Thanks for taking us along on your food journey! Safe travels home!

Always enjoy Jax and Bijatzu before that. I know it can be expensive but if the food is good and the service as well I don't mind spending the $$, especially on a special occasion. Glad you had a good experience.

Carol,

Wife actually likes it at least medium while I am more of a MR-MEDIUM

a steak will continue to raise in temperature even when sitting on the table, so it was cooked perfect for us

I filled a long French roll along with two croissants for lunch before we leave and dinner ( in cooler bags) on the plane

Thanks for all your reviews. We just have to make sure we hit some of your places this trip--sand gravity still remains a great threat to gastronomy. Safe travels.

I prefer my steak medium rare but if you like it medium it look about right. What was the price for just the Tomahawk may I ask?

OK, I like my steak medium rare at most. And yes, it does continue to cook on the table. That sounds like a lovely meal for on the plane!!!

I still remember a steak meal for two that we got at Dreams. We had leftovers for two days!!

Thanks again for sharing your trip with us.

Thank you for all the great reviews! We’re looking forward to trying some of the new places and appreciate the time and effort I know it takes to share your experiences.

I think there’s going to be a Tomahawk chop in my future come November!

Safe travels!

Re: Last Night going home - 09/05/2022 12:08 PM

I believe the price was $150.00 comparable to a steak house back home.
My grocery store sometimes carries them and will run about $70.00 and not grade beef which makes a difference
Bought a long loaf of French bread at Maho market along with some smoked gouda and had enough meat to fill the bread for lunch and dinner on board

$150.00 won't be on my radar to just be cycled through my digestive system but glad you enjoyed it.
