Trip Report - Day 2 - 11/26/2022 02:40 PM

As we opened the curtains and swung open the window shutters, we were greeted with a better weather day in St. Maarten. There were still lots of clouds floating around but it was looking like it would shape up to be a great day.

My eye has also dramatically improved since we left Canada. It seemed like the moment we touched down in St. Maarten everything got better. Ever happened to you? 😊 The medication had really gone to work stopping the blisters, plus soothing the inflammation, and swelling. I have turned the corner for the better – time to enjoy this vacation to the fullest!

We worked on a few projects and solved a few client issues then we were free to play. We usually travel around the island like two mad pirates on a mission going from beach to beach with a picnic packed and the tunes blaring on the car radio, but this year has been different. And that’s okay too! We went from our “St. Maarten Work Office” (view out our window below – love it) to the beach chairs out front and watched the waves, the boats, the people, and puppies have a wonderful day. We did too. (Resort Puppy pictures to come if I can ever catch them for photos – they don’t stop running!”)

In the late afternoon we decided to head over to Maho Beach to watch the sunset. We settled in on two beautiful new lounge chairs in front of Driftwood and they helped us position the umbrella so I could be in the shade. Driftwood is really looking good these days. Then we watched the waves crash on the rocks and sent a memo to the ocean asking that the sand return to the beach because it’s not looking as pretty or as functional as usual.

The sunset was glorious and really put on a show but no green flash. Just when you think you might be lucky and get one, another bank of clouds on the horizon obscures the descent. Oh well, it was still gorgeous!

We packed up and headed over to Carrefour in Porto Cupecoy and picked our way through the Mullet Bay Road Construction zone. Work definitely needs to be done because of the flooding when it rains but if you were to swerve to miss a wild motorcyclist or miscue in any way, you’d be stuck in a deep trench on the side of the road with a broken axel. It looks like they’re putting in a better drainage system but driving through the area right now is a bit scary. After stocking up on some necessities we drove up to Jordan Village to visit Caterina and Claire at the Spaghetti House. We started with one of their amazing Caesar salads and gobbled it down so fast that I forgot to take a picture. The plate is very nice though, don’t you think? Then hubby had the Spaghetti Bolognese and I opted for simplicity; good ole fashioned spaghetti with tomato sauce. I broke up the beautiful basil sprig on top and stirred it up into the dish and it was perfect. We traveled to Italy this summer and I can honestly say, The Spaghetti House rivals any of the wonderful pastas we had in Milan or Lake Como. Yes, it’s that good! Thank you TTOL posters for the tip and the reviews about this little gem on Jordan Village hill.

I feel like I’m still there. The Caesar salad at Spaghetti House is very good. Large enough to easily share as a side salad.

Nice report Teresa. Glad the eye is doing better.I also thought the big ditch construction along Mullet was for drainage pipes, but that is not so. Apparently they are laying cables there for something else. I was told they will never drain that area!

It's amazing how the application of ocean breezes soothes all types of ills! Carry on and enjoy!!

And no street lights through Mullet Bay. Twice a hazard. Edges of the road are disintegrating.

Glad to hear the Driftwood is looking good these days. That might be my go to place now that El Zafiro is kaput..
