What type of difficulties are you concerned about? I'm not aware of any current issues beyond the recent extreme weather-related delays and cancellations. That has always been a possible issue when travelling in winter. If it is the weather that concerns you, no one has any control over that and no one can predict the weather over a month in advance in any case. Can you be more specific?

As a Canadian who travels very frequently to SXM, I can tell you from personal experience that there are no difficulties for travel from Canada to St Maarten and return.. There are no more covid tests as of November 1st of last year.
As long as you have not been visiting China in the last 30 days, they will not give you a second look at the airport.
Once you are on SXM, it is pretty much like pre-covid times.
I fly out of YYZ Toronto direct. If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to attempt to answer them or others on this forum who have been there recently as well will do the same.. I have been back in Canada for 2 weeks, but I am going back again in 2 weeks for one month in sxm .
If you are flying Feb 4th you are most likely flying Air Canada. They are the only carrier who fly direct on Saturdays from Toronto. My experience with Air Canada is that they are the only airline that has you fill out an immigration sheet. Don't know why that is. WestJet Sunwing and Air Transat don't do that and AC are the only one to fly out of Terminal 1.

I would guess that because of all the recent Sunwing problems in the news that people are maybe concerned if they have a sunwing flight booked. We have a direct flight booked with Sunwing but it is not till March 30/23, so hopefully weather is good and also it is not holiday season. Fingers crossed. Have been going to SXM since 205 and usually always fly Air transat, or West Jet or Air Canada. This year however, the availability of direct flights and prices were absolutely wild. It appears those top three have cut the number of flights they do direct?? Nevertheless we are hopeful that Sunwing will get things in order. Cant wait to return to island, has been a long two years.

I see in the news passenger backlogs, lost luggage, frustrated passengers, I realize I can't control the weather I was just curious if anyone experienced those typed of issues.

We arrived on December 15th via Westjet from Nanaimo Bc , Toronto to SXM, no problems, everything on time, took an hour from start to finish through PJA. No worries.
