Carrefour Market, Cole Bay

Posted By: SirRichard

Carrefour Market, Cole Bay - 01/11/2023 02:52 PM

After picking up our rental car at SAX (thanks Colour1) we plan to stop at Carrefour for supplies before we arrive at our destination, Ally Moon Cottages. Their website looks fantastic with fresh produce etc. What can we expect as far as pricing? Fresh fruits, cold cuts, cheese etc, and oh ya, beer and wine prices.

I love this quote from a regular: I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

Sir Richard--a word of warning--IF you stop at Carrefour with your bags in the car, please have someone stay in the car while one of you shops!! That would be a horrible start to your vacation, for someone to steal your bags and possibly ID, passports, etc. Please..

With regard to prices at Carrefour, they will be slightly higher than US prices, particularly on US branded products. If possible, buy Carrefour or other local products, as compared to US products. Wine will be more expensive for US wines. Use the opportunity to buy anything OTHER than US wines, for good prices, versus prices in the US. Once you've settled in, do take a ride over to the French side and check out Super U. Tons of French and other European products that you just can't get at home! Enjoy!

When you fly in grab the magazine handed out on your last flight in. There is a coupon for Carrefour in there that might save you a little coin. Some checkers keep it and some let you keep it to reuse. Also make sure you have a quarter on you to unlock the shopping cart. Prices aren't all that bad compared to the States. Of course that is depending on where you are used to shopping back home.

Yup....not cool to stop on three on the way to your rental place unless someone stays with the vehicle. I like that Carrefour for most things but if you want French wine wander over to Super U for decent prices...you will drive right by it on the way to your B & B

Boucharda--I wasn't familiar with where he is staying, but looked it up and see that it is in Orient. Sir Richard--You might want to skip Carrefour altogether and head to Super U in Marigot or even Hope Estate. You could drop your stuff off at your B & B and then go to the Super U in Hope Estate. Unless of course you prefer US products, which you're not going to get at Super U.

Re:Carrefour coupon in Destinations magazine, take a photo with your camera and each time you shop you just show photo to cashier. It is a 5% savings. For a long stay costs over $100 are not unusual (especially with liquor). Make sure coupon has current experation date. They change it every year.

Super U is open Sundays, yes. Not sure the exact times. I think it used to be like 8 to 2.

Are you referring to this year as 2023 as it was in the Destination Magazine this last May?

Re: Carrefour Market, Cole Bay - 01/11/2023 06:35 PM

I believe the Super U closes on Sunday around 1pm...Carrefour 2pm ...Market Garden on Welfare Rd open until 9pm but pricier and smaller

Too bad it's gone. I still have last years in my on island storage box. I'll have to check and see if there was an expiration date on it.

Since we are there for a month we might just sign up for the free Carrefour rewards card. We think about it every year but never have. Might this year.

In the 2022 magazine the coupon is only good through December 2022. I don't see a coupon in the 2023 ad.

Not sure when you are arriving but if you are on the Sunday Westjet flight the big grocery stores will be closed by the time you arrive. Petite Casino in orient village will be open and it is usually very well stocked. A little more expensive than the Super U but a great place to get supplies to hold you over until Monday.
