Happy Bay today

Happy Bay today - 01/18/2023 10:49 PM

Ok....two pics that show a conflicting report on the beach....one on the way over (nice)....one on the beach (not nice)....but I should add that there was very little seaweed in the water. The sand was another issue and actually was a great day

Edit: I should add that David Geffen's 495 ft Rising Sun arrived in front of Flamingo/SBR an hour ago....nice little boat

No one out there to rake?? Such a shame, beautiful beach!! We've seen it from the intercoastal on our Rhino Safari riders!!!

That first pic is basically although from a higher view when we stay in Villa Canuoa on Happy Bay. Will never tire of that.

I've never seen seaweed of any volume on Happy. Could see it going by in between Anguilla, I'm sure if the wind shifts the correct way it would come in just haven't seen it before. Glad it didn't ruin your day.

How was traffic on Happy? We usually don't travel at peak and it can be pretty desolate.

7 more days!!!!

Any other beaches affected by the seaweed?

Maybe 10-15 people on the whole beach . Decent rainstorm before we arrived so that might be the reason. Guy with a massage table set up and doing business. Mix of suit types. Going back tomorrow so will compare. Beautiful weather last two days in Simpson Bay.

I've been to HB MANY, MANY times and never had any issues...nor have I witnessed any. I would say itt has potential like ANY area on Island (like Maho/robbery/gunshots). You have to be aware of your surroundings and limit your exposure (a.k.a don't bring stuff you wouldn't want to lose). And we may be weird but we only go in swimming one at a time for that reason.

I only bring a couple of $20's and my driving license that I keep in my zipped pocket. Other than that they can take my towels and sunscreen and my ccoler....WAIT.....my beer is in that cooler! Hands off dude....

No different than ANY area of SXM.... and NEVER saw a motorcycle on/near that beach...cows yes....bikes no

YOU have never seen a motorcycle, so there's never been one?....why so defensive?

Just stating MY observations which is kinda the purpose of a forum...not being defensive at all.

Again, beware of a local guy on a black motor scooter comes mid afternoon. This was last July, 2 backpacks , cell phones, money , car keys , military ID , reported to police. They tracked the phones and the guy was found but not everything was recovered. The police said this guy made a habit of going to that beach after work. He got caught so hopefully he stopped at Happy Bay and went someplace else to rob.

I think I remember that event...sucks...

Today was a hot day at HB with a few more visitors than the last visit. Seaweed is shrinking in the sun and doesn't look to have added any. There is none visible in the water...(pic) ...and another pic from the walk over the #%$*&@# hill. I HAVE to find out how to get there like they do for the SXM festival. Tried that in Google maps but looked confusing...

@bouchard. Alternate walk to HB. When going from Orient past Grand Case. You will pass the school and the basketball courts on the right. Turn right at Cool Huere restaurant. Drive to end of the street and park either in the small lot to the right of the gate or along the road. Walk around the gate to the right then up the paved road. At the top of the rise, keep going down the dirt road. Beach straight ahead. Much easier walk than over the hill from Friars.

Re: Happy Bay today - 01/21/2023 11:40 AM

Thanks...I will give it a go next week. I would just be concerned with the vehicle being out there. With Friar's route at least there are humans around but the walk is not fun....guess it's a decision to be made

boucharda--I don't blame you for worrying about the car, but I would make sure there was nothing in the car and leave the doors unlocked. That way, they can rifle through the car without breaking locks to do it.

Over the last two weeks I saw quite a few people getting food from him most every day, Not sure about today though,

Hey Jimamytx, make sure to tell Dany as soon as you arrive (9-11am) that you want lunch such as grilled chicken. If he does not get any orders early, he might not start up his grill. He also has beer and rum punch with plenty of rum.
