Trip Report 4/24-4/30 - 05/02/2023 02:05 PM

Our Second trip to the island. Very similar to our first, but a few days longer. This was our one trip for the year without the kids. We flew TPA-MIA-SXM on American. The trip down was smooth with no delays. NONO car rental was waiting at the airport and took us to Residence Adam and Eve. We’ve used NONO both trips and they have been great.

Day one was a few hours on the Club O beach followed by lounging by the pool. Dinner was at Trattoria, which we both enjoyed.

Tuesday was a full day at the Club O beach followed by a couple of hours at the pool. We had lunch at Le String which has become our favorite Orient lunch spot. Dinner was a takeout pizza from Bona Mama in the village that was excellent.

Wednesday started with a hike from Loterie Farm to Pic Paradis. It took a little over two hours up and back and had some wonderful views. We got back to Orient for an afternoon on the beach.

Thursday was spent on “The Good Life”, Adam and Eve’s catamaran. Originally, we had planned to take their trip to Tintamarre and Pinel. When we arrived Monday, Caroline informed us they had others interested in a trip to St. Barths for the day. So off to St. Barths we went. This was our first time to St. Barths since our honeymoon sixteen years ago. We stopped on the way over to snorkel at Ille Fourchue and then went on to St. Barths. We anchored outside of Gustavia and took the dinghy in. We spent a few hours walking in Gustavia and grabbed a few drinks. We also checked out Shell Beach and Fort Karl. The sail back was incredible. We approached St. Martin right at Sunset with a storm hanging over the island.

Friday was a full day at Club O. Lunch was Pirate’s hideout, which was so so. Dinner, we hit up SAO for sushi. It was some of the best we’ve ever had. We had a couple of drinks at Yellow Sub and called it a night.

Saturday was again spent at Club O. We did take a hike over to Le Gallon beach in the morning for some exercise. Being our last Full day, we had to visit Le String one more time for lunch.

Sunday morning was a walk on the beach and preparing to go home. NONO picked us up and took us back to the airport. The trip home was a little rough. We were about 45 minutes late leaving SXM, which wasn’t a big deal because we had plenty of time to make our connection. However, our MIA to TPA flight ended up getting delayed a couple of hours.

All in all, another great trip to SXM. We met some wonderful people and are already discussing our next trip to the island.

Thanks for the report and some really lovely pictures! You have a nice eye for photography.

Can't see how you go for such a short time! I would be just unwinding, in time to have to leave to come home!

Carol,

Years ago, in the mid 80s, we used to sneak off for an extended weekend without our girls. It eventually evolved from a Friday to Tuesday to a full week and eventually maxed out at another full ten day to two week trip each year.
Any time on SXM is a good time even if only 4 or 5 days. Of course, air fares were a lot less expensive but I wouldn’t even consider doing it for such a short stay given the current outrageous pricing.

Pat,

That is exactly our situation, young kids at home. Our first trip was Wed-Sun. This time was Mon-Sun. Next year hopefully more!

I will admit, we own a boat and are on the water quite a bit. That being said, my wife can still get sea sick occasionally and she was fine. They scheduled the trip to St. Barths because of the calm weather. There were some swells, but not to bad. We motored into the wind on the way there, and sailed back. The trip back was very smooth.
