Passport/Global Entry Question

Passport/Global Entry Question - 07/10/2023 07:11 PM

I’m renewing my passport and I currently have Global Entry good for another couple years. Will my new passport automatically reflect the fact that I have Global Entry?

Don't believe so. I remember I had to do something when we renewed ours.

No, when you get the new passport, log onto the GE site and update your passport details and you're good to go

The process should be that you receive a new passport, with a new number, and then you log into the Global Entry portal to update your passport number. But it’s not always that simple. I renewed my passport earlier this year and then logged into Global Entry to update the passport number. The portal would not accept the new number and told me that I had to physically go to an enrollment center.

US passport numbers are now alpha numeric instead of strictly numeric. When I finally got to see an agent at the enrollment center, it took him about a minute to update my information. He shrugged and said, “Something about those new numbers….” I returned from Europe last week and Global Entry worked perfectly.

One important caveat: if you need to go to an enrollment center for an update, you need to bring your actual passport and Global Entry card. The agent who I saw didn’t immediately realize that my Global Entry card was tucked into my passport. He initially said he couldn’t help me without the card and passport.

i just recently renewed by passport. Had to go to another interview and they had to upudate the information. Luckily, there is an office within half hour of me at the Port of Palm Beach. They are no longer accepting online changes is what we were told.

Wow. Good info Brad and Ed. One last question. Did you need an appointment or did you just walk in?

I just walked in (Dulles) and joined the queue. Everyone else seemed to have appointments for interviews, but there was still a line to check in upon arrival. The check-in line was about 15 minutes and the actual work by the agent was about a minute.
