Trip Report - Day 6

Trip Report - Day 6 - 11/28/2023 01:36 PM

It was an early morning “get up and get going” kind of day because we were headed to Marigot to catch the ferry to Anguilla. The ferry terminal is under construction and looks like it will be beautiful one day with its steel trim and big shiny windows. We were waved over to some temporary buildings/shacks for passport control, then to pay our $5 departure tax, then to another shack to get checked again to make sure everything was in order.

Finally we were on our way for the 22 minute, $30 trip to Blowing Point Terminal which has also undergone a renovation. We grabbed a taxi ($35) and asked to go Elodia’s on Shoal Bay East. We had toyed with the idea of going to Gwen’s but we’re partial to Elodia’s end of the beach.

After a morning of swimming and sunning, a friend from Canada met us for lunch. We had a great catch-up over two Mahi-Mahi salads and some chicken with rice. The day on the beach passed far too quickly.

Our friend loaded us up in his car and took us to his golf club which used to be Cuisinart, now called Aurora. Just up the beach, was Bankey Banks’ Dune Preserve. “Sunday School” was in session (if ya know-ya know) but Bankey was sidelined because his keyboard player didn’t show up. So, we listened to some great music performed by a young guitarist that he was obviously teaching and mentoring.

Overall, it was beautiful day in Anguilla. A little expensive, but the memories and the adventure were all worth it.

Thanks for the report and the pics. Sounds like a lovely day! I saw some pictures in the Daily Herald of the new terminal at Blowing Point. I suspect that terminal was the impetus for the new one in Marigot! smile

Thanks for the great report. It's been a few years, but we really enjoyed our day trips to Anguilla.

I went to Anguilla yesterday, Monday, but hung out at Madeariman. Excellent food. I thought the whole Marigot setup was a pain in the a##. Seems as though it's been under construction for a year; for sure, at least six months. They had a new ferry since the last time I went to Anguilla. The main level was full when I boarded, and I didn't see that there was a downstairs. Ended out on top and got splashed by waves constantly; was pretty wet by the time we got to Blowing Point. I thought it was a miserable ride, but all was forgiven by the time I got my lounge chair and gazed at that gorgeous beach. For the return, I learned my lesson and rode in the covered lower area.

The ferry isn’t an enjoyable ride for sure Linda. I have to sit up on top at all times due to extreme sea sickness issues. I’ve never been splashed up there before - sorry you had a rough ride!
