Guavaberry or not?

Guavaberry or not? - 02/12/2024 04:24 PM

Been 14 years since our last visit to the island. Kids, life, etc. was really hoping to restock on guavaberry rum. Seeing conflicting things on the internet. Is the Emporium open or not? If closed, any other locations to purchase that wonderful nectar?

Pretty sure all the major stores sell guava berry rums, if they are the bottles that seem to be hand painted.

Those are mostly different varieties of flavored rum.

The hand-painted rum bottles are from Ma Doudou in Cul-de-Sac.

As others have said, that particular business is out of business, but other companies do sell liquors that are guavaberry flavored. Ma Dou Dou and Toppers have them, I believe.

Just curious, what do you do with it? It always tasted like cough syrup to me.

I still have an unopened bottle from way back that I'll probably never use as I have to agree with you, can't believe I'm saying that, that drinking it straight is like taking cough syrup. But it was quite good mixed in a colada on the island.

Colombier Tradition makes guavaberry rum from trees grown in the village. They have a small shop on the main road in Marigot (on the corner where you can turn up into concordia). I believe they are on Facebook.

I've been drinking guavaberry for years, as my parents have several trees in their yard. I actually did not like the stuff from the emporium that much, but I loved what my mom and other local folks made from the trees in our village smile. I drink it on the rocks!

We always made frozen coladas out of it. Agree that it was way too sweet to drink straight.

orient--ok. As I said, other companies make the same flavor rum, so you should be able to get it done.
