French Cocotte- the real Gem!

French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/03/2024 01:56 AM

This restaurant located at Porto Cupecoy. Simply AMAZING!!! Great service from start to finish and absolutely amazing food!! Shepard duck pie with a morels mushrooms sauce was to die for! But the dessert is something else!! We opted out for a soft egg white merengue with some vanilla and something else sauce - oh my God!!!
Folks, give it a try, you won’t regret it! Just make sure you have a reservation- they are busy!!

We noticed the sign when we drove by there a few times, wondered if it was something new. We will plan to give it a try next time!

Looked on Facebook but didn't see when it opens. Is it just dinner? Or do they serve lunch?

Trivia: French Cocotte is a method of cooking; somewhat like a covered stew pan.

Thanks for the note! I had not heard of it before. I don't know why, but it is pretty difficult to get good French food on the Dutch side. Anyone have a link to a menu?

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/03/2024 03:05 PM

They opened just recently, I think the owner said like 4 months ago. It is owned by a young French couple , the owner was our waiter yesterday. Their chief is 27 years old and we were told had worked at a pretty famous restaurants before. I tell you- he is definitely talented!! This place was on par with Tropicana!

I ate there in July shortly after they opened. I don't remember now what I had but it was a pleasant experience.

If you are on Facebook, go to Foodporn Group of SXM and look for Vanessa White's post of March 5 (yesterday). The Foodporn group ate there last night, and Vanessa posted numerous pictures of the menu in her post.

Carol, it is a private group, but I'm sure you'd be welcomed. There's a lot of great information about the island restaurants there.

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/07/2024 04:43 PM

Georgia--Sorry, no. I am tired of all these different groups, one for every day of the month, all of which are private groups, that you can't even READ. It's BS. There's no reason for it.

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/07/2024 04:49 PM

We belong to a lot of Private SXM groups on Facebook. We pick up lots of information that we would never find elsewhere. Just because you belong doesn't mean you have to read everything posted but it's there if you have time and want to.

As I said, I'm not going to join every d*mn group on the internet. There's no reason to require registration to read.

Don't you belong to Jeff Bergers private group? Had to register there.

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/07/2024 05:38 PM

I signed up for that a long time ago, before there were 528 different FB groups. That's the only one I ever signed up for.

Well if there is a group you shouldn't belong to I would say that is the one.

I will not be signing up for any other FB groups.

And back to the original question--surely there is someplace online where this restaurant has their menu??

With due respect, if you aren't going to keep up with the times, you can't really complain about not being in the know.

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/08/2024 12:24 AM

No, actually I can. A restaurant should have a website. How hard is that?

What position in the plaza is this restaurant in? Is Altro still open?

I have to agree with Carol, but I am a never facebook-er, lol, has nothing to do with keeping up with the times πŸ™„

How about a sub forum for SXM restaurant menus?πŸ‘

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/09/2024 02:56 AM

Lots of prices are average to other places but their sole meuniere is $49. At Tropicana it's $38 & she does a splendid job. Also le piment was $49.

Jeepers--$49 or 49 Euros?
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/09/2024 02:12 PM

Scuba--yes, maybe, but a lot of work and menus do change. Then if we created a separate forum for that, then discussions of whether the food was good are off topic?

If people could remember to take a picture of the menu during their restaurant visits, and then just post as part of their trip report (hint, hint!!! grin), the info would be up to date.

Maybe design the page so only you can post menus that appear in other trip reports or posts. Just an idea.

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/09/2024 05:27 PM

Scuba--Tropicana and Le Piment are on the French side so I assume without knowing that the prices that Jeepers posted there are in Euros.

Georgia--I'm not sure your position on that, from this post. To ME, a restaurant should have a website. Period.

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/10/2024 10:43 PM

Unfortunately, updating a website is hard for most people, while uploading a photo to Facebook is easy.

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/10/2024 11:40 PM

Frankly, I think that's a cost of doing business, to update your REAL website. However, it's been my experience that even most FB pages for restaurants don't have any menus. Or if they do, it's difficult to find them.
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/11/2024 12:45 AM

That's good. I had one for my business too and when I sold it the new owner doesn't keep it updated. Some don't have the skills or take the time.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: French Cocotte- the real Gem! - 03/11/2024 12:50 AM

It's not really rocket science, just spend a couple of bucks for a real website, But especially if the business just does a FB page, it's pretty simple. With the competition in SXM in restaurants, why would someone not have a page of some nature?

It looks absolutely wonderful. You have nothing to apologize for, the appearance is no different than a thousand other kitchens as you are cooking. Besides, I'm always impressed by the quality and taste of the finished product much more so than the appearance of the plating. Thank you so much for sharing.

I never said it that way at all. Just that restaurants need to have a webpage. Whatever. This one is done.
