Sargassum hits Maho and Simpson Bay Beaches - 03/26/2024 03:18 PM

Just saw pictures of the massive amounts of Sargassum along the beaches and further out in the water. Lots in front of Driftwood and the Boon area with more on the way. Lots of pictures on various Facebook sites.

Dinghy's beach bar beach webcam doesn't seem to be working, although the airport one is.

@lcote - I did, and now I'm out here in the very rolly anchorage and wishing I'd been wrong. 2 boats came into the lagoon last afternoon and anchored too close to me, and at 07:00 this morning I had to lift anchor to avoid them hitting me. Because the inside was full I couldn't find another place to drop anchor so I had to leave. It is very uncomfortable out (which is why the lagoon is full) and I'd like to take a screwdriver to the hull of both boats that forced me to leave because of their bad anchoring! I'm not particularly happy right now...

Anyone but me think that if Simpson Bay is full of sargassum, that this could be the reason that the Dinghy's beach cam isn't working? Probably a coincidence, as I assume it's very windy toward the water??.

I cannot believe or understand why people would be in the water off Maho Beach with all that sargassum.

Anyone know if Mullet Bay is affected?

In other Caribbean islands I've been too hit by sargassum they actively clean it. Haven't seen any efforts at Maho today at all. Is the approach here to wait for it to be covered in sand or wash back out?

This is the view from the other Simpson Bay WebCam.
You can see some sargassum at the waterline.

That WebCam is located on the north side of Simpson Bay. It is one of the two WebCams offered by our friends at Island 92 FM.
The other WebCam points at the Simpson Bay bridge.
Not sure exactly what you were asking, but hopefully that answers the question.

Yes, it is on the island 92 website. If you go to the area where it says watch and chat. I’ve been having difficulty posting links lately. I think one of the settings in my phone has changed. But you will see it on the Island 92 website.

Thank you bdeeley for posting the link.

Dr. Phil-nothing has changed on our end, as far as posting links. Just click on USE FULL EDITOR

One that new screen comes up, click on the globe icon, about 3/4 of the way to the right of the screen. Put your url into that pop up screen.

I just moved into that webcam range, just inside and next to the sunken rusty dry-dock. It is still rolling here, but not as bad as it was next to the channel.

My Daughter and Son in law just checked into the Flamingo. Sargassum there in the water too. Beach was clear.
