The COVID Dining Challenge

The COVID Dining Challenge - 09/18/2020 08:01 PM

One more week of restricted life in these days of COVID.
Before March, the weekend was when we would go out to a nice restaurant and have a wonderful meal with family and friends.
Today, the drive thru window at Arby’s has almost special become a special event.

In an attempt to revive those memories of long relaxing meals and the months gone by, here is a game that is near and dear to my heart stomach – food and wine!
It is an international dining experience!
A challenge that puts you in the role of sophisticated dinner or the sommelier.

Please review the menu for the fare being offered this weekend.
The menu offers a multiple course meal, and of course a wine list.
The goal is to match the wine that best pairs with the offerings of Bistro du COVID.
This being the World Wide Travel thread, the wines will be international

Below the menu you will find and interactive wine list.
Press the [CLICK TO SHOW CONTENT] to check your answers.

(Disclaimer: This is a highly subjective topic, so I referenced a very well-known wine expert for the pairings – these are not my opinions. I did embellish the dishes… a little)

You have your choice of two challenges!

The Sophisticated Diner’s Challenge
– Pick one item from each of the 4 courses and pair the appropriate wine with each item.

Sommelier Challenge
– Pair the entire menu with the appropriate wine.

Please post how you did, but do not name individual wine or food pairings so others will remain in the blind.

Bon Appétit

Well I tried the sophisticated diner. I am not not so much. Got one correct! The sardines which I don’t even like.

Guess I have a lot to learn.

Ellen - do not worry you did great, and I guarantee if you had a wine from where the sardines came from fresh from the sea... you would like them. Not so much here!

Beerman - I had to laugh... Red wine and fish! And the region next door to your favorite red wine was recommended with the fish! BTW it is $$ vice $$$

Carol - Please click on Bandol and the dish that is recommended. Then get a bottle and enjoy what it is recommended with and you will be sold.. it does matter.

hope you had fun!

Tom,
VERY clever! I was barely sophisticated. My wife is the reverse of Rick, she drinks white w meat!
I usually enjoy a good red w beef. If somebody knowledgeable does the ordering, I’ll buy. Sometimes that’s an “ouch!”
