Something New - The Question Game - 12/23/2020 02:35 PM

For those who have run out pictures, here is another game to stretch the old traveling brain.
Just like the picture game… Google knows all answers so please try to avoid the temptation. Hints will be given if needed and after 18 hours in there are no correct answer the game is opened to web searches.
Pictures may be used as part of the question if you so desire.
The question can be about anywhere in the world.
The person who gets the question correct in its entirety will post the next question.
Good Luck

England is not one of the countries.

To answer your question - more than one but less than 10 smile

Sleepychef - 0 would not be correct

Madam Counselor... being an island does not preclude you being a country... Or even an continent smile wink

Since it is technically two tunnels and three bridges I don't know for sure if it qualifies as the longest 'bridge'. I think there might be one longer. Of course i could be wrong. jester

Lake Pontchartrain Bridge?

I think the longest suspension span in the U.S. is still the Verrazzano, but I'm not sure if that's what you're asking.

Missed this originally. Tom, you were right first time. The UK is part of the continent of Europe as the continental shelf of Europe extends to the west of Ireland and the north of Scotland.

What the heck is a 'coastal dune lake'??? Never heard of it..

Me neither, I guess that is why we play.

I will go US and Mexico. Total guess.
Posted By: xrayman67

Re: Something New - The Question Game - 12/24/2020 04:44 PM

Coastal dune lakes intermittently open and close along coastal regions. They are actually very rare, but I do live by one, so the US is correct. Florida and Oregon are the 2 states in the US. I thought this might be a tough one. We need 2 more countries.

USVI is not a State - Sorry Sleepychef

OK, Alaska has to be right, so obviously the others are wrong. Wait, Hawaii has to be right! OK, I think it's a matter of definitions. When you say "most southern", does that mean the northern border of the state is the furthest south?? Regardless, Hawaii has to be right.

Name the most Northern State:_______________
Name the most Southern State:______________
Name the most Western State: ______________
Name the most Eastern State: _______________

Alaska and Hawaii have place on the list above
Posted By: Fran

Re: Something New - The Question Game - 12/26/2020 05:27 PM

I'm thinking the most northern would be Alaska. I think that may also be the answer for the most western (Aleutian Islands). The most southern could be Hawaii and the most eastern Maine.

Now...Which one is wrong

Re: Something New - The Question Game - 12/26/2020 07:09 PM

Carol - in fact Alaska in further west of Hawaii

And in fact the correct state has a longitude of 179°46'E making it the most eastern state
Posted By: Fran

Re: Something New - The Question Game - 12/26/2020 07:23 PM

OHHH, tricky. What's west is east, hemispherically.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Something New - The Question Game - 12/26/2020 07:59 PM

Huh? OK. Will wait for the correct answer.
Posted By: Fran

Re: Something New - The Question Game - 12/26/2020 08:12 PM

Well, Longitude starts at the prime meridian, or zero degrees longitude (Greenwich England) and I believe adds one degree as you head east from there so 179+ would be halfway around the globe, therefore, some part of the western US is actually in the eastern hemisphere. The westernmost state could be also the easternmost.

How many states are there in Mexico?

Bonus question: How many of them can you name? (I can typically come up with a little more than half of them.) Please don't put your list here, just the number.

Posted By: sleepychef

Re: Something New - The Question Game - 12/30/2020 11:23 PM

no temp on earth
Posted By: Fran

Re: Something New - The Question Game - 12/31/2020 01:00 AM

OK, I'm totally confused. It's consistently the hottest place on earth but no temp on earth. How can that be? Either it's on earth or it's not. If it's in a desert, even below it, then it's still on earth. Even the core of the planet is still on earth. Below the surface but still on earth, therefore the temp would still be on earth. Yup, very confused. I suspect this may be a case of semantics.
