Trip to Italy/Carry on Luggage - 05/05/2022 04:07 PM

Hi everyone,
Trip planning from here is done so far. Next question. We are only doing carry on bags. Our carry on bag is 23.5 inches high and United is saying their carry on bag limit is 22 inches high. We are sitting towards the back of the plane. Should we take a chance they will let us board and not measure it? Just something else to stress about.

Thanks,

Carolyn

Probably depends on how full the plane is. I would bet money that they make you gate check it, unless the flight is farily empty. Last plane I was on was full, many carry on bags did not fit, and they had to bring them back up to the front, and I do believe they were all gate checked.

Rule of travel:
Pack suitcase let it sit for 48 hours
Then unpack 1/2 of what is in suitcase
Now go to the bank and get twice as much as you think you will need.

Usually, in Europe, they don't stress so much about an inch or two of height. I wanted to ask about your final destination. Did you do any research before booking your plane tickets?

Hi.
We are going to Venice for 3 nights. Florence for 3 nights and Rome for 6 nights.

We rented Verbo apartments in all 3 cities.

We booked skip the line tickets for the Accademia in Florence and the Vatican in Rome.

We have a 3 hour tour scheduled for the Colussum and to Pompeii that we are going to go on the train and meet our tour guide there.

Planning to go to Bologna for a day trip from Florence.

I have been to Italy 4 times before the last time in 1990.

I'm just tagging along with my boys. I"m in it for the food and wine and of course some shopping. lol

Booked refundable tickets on United direct to Venice and home to Newark from Rome. A little more but could cancel for a full refund 24 before we would fly if we have to.
Price went down about $250 each 2 weeks after we bought them and United credited my credit card for the difference. They have been up to $800 higher give or take from then. So a good deal.

Verbo can be canceled for a full refund a week or so before we arrive and all tours with 24 hours notice.

Hopefully i can do carry-on bags.

Can't wait to go.

Now i just have to stress about covid and testing.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions.
