Charter in Guadalupe

Thinking about a bareboat charter in Guadalupe. Have internet searched the charter companies but am interested in any actual experiences, please.

We chartered a Catana from DYC and thought they were super. Small, well-run base, boat was in perfect condition.

Marie Galante and the Ile des Saintes are some of the best crusing in the Eastern Carib, throw in Dominica and you've got a REALLY nice charter. Distances are small, sailing is relatively easy.

Outstanding French supermarkets to provision with and excellent French and Creole restaurants means you won't lose any weight there. Fresh croissants and café au lait for breakfast everyday-yum! Numerous local rhum producers, well worth sampling, a pirate's dream.

Isles des Saintes and Deshaies on the north west coast of Guadeloupe are two of my favourite places in the Caribbean. Haven't seen many other parts of Guadeloupe but of course you could always go and take another look at Redonda <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> if you are in the area.

Mike, on the "delivery" I did of Jeannius from Martinique we did stop at de Saintes (have the t-shirt) and then did an overnight in Dehaise. DYC is probably Dream Yacht Charters.

If you are thinking of chartering in winter,you probably know the open water sails can be boisterous, even into late Spring ;-)

Nolan... No looks like we may be having a bit of a rest. Possibly going to just rent an RV for a couple of months just to check we like doing it long-term before buying something.

DYC. Dream Yacht Charter. I'm very interested in them as they have a base near Tahiti and they allow you to go to the Tuamotu Islands, the one part of the South Pacific we'd really like to spend more time.

Yes, Dream Yacht Charter, they have a small base in Pointe a Pitre. They also have a base in Martinique, one ways are OK. One thing different about them they don't limit your charter area. You can, as an example, sail from Guadaloupe to BVI if you want (and pay the fee!).

After decades chartering with the Moorings, TMM, CYOA, PV, etc. These guys seem to be a cut above, at least as far as allowing you leave the typical base agenda behind. Watermakers are typical on their yachts, which would make a longer haul like the Tuamotus a bit easier (and cheaper too.)

I really did Dream about that Catana 55 in Raiatea, maybe even having it delivered to Fakarava then sailing back to Raiatea. Only Time & Money.

$5500 LESS to charter a Catana 47 in Raiatea for 2 weeks than a Lagoon 450 in Tortola during May next year <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> Also probably quicker for you on the West coast to get there.

Would like to add Marie Galante as a really nice island worth a visit. We spent two nights at anchor and rented a car for a day. Well worth it. Won't go in on the boat we chartered (it had an electrical fire due to bad maintenance and lack of required fuses).

Marie Galante is also of interest as it seems to be the locale for a BBC TV show "Murder in Paradise", which I watch regularly.

Incidentally, my wife and I spent a wonderful week in your lovely country this spring during the "tulip season". I will never forget a sunny day in Keukenhof garden!

Death in Paradise I think Nolan. Mostly if not entirely filmed in Deshaies, Guadeloupe.

From PP an easy motor/sail the 1st day to the anchorage at Ilet Gosier. Then reach to Marie Galante which is about as far to windward is you likely want to sail from PP. Definitely take a car around the island very neat place still very agricultural as opposed to touristy. Lots of cane and Rhum production, and as Carol says stunning scenery. Head downwind to the Saintes from there.

Some of the best diving in the entire Eastern Carib is to be had in Guadaloupe. The marine park at Ile Pigeon, and Sec Pate in the channel are some favs of mine.

Keukenhof is our backyard, well.... sort of since we live some 3 miles away from it. Driving around Marie Galante and tasting rum is really nice. We bought some of the last bottles Mr. Godefroid bottled (so they told us); no longer to be found?

We anchored at Pain a Sucre (Isles des Saintes), not far from Marigot (15 mins dingy ride) and a lot quieter and nices (we think). Like Mike we also enjoyed Deshaies and several other small places. Antigua is not far and well worth the crossing back and forth.
