St. Vincent Info Please

St. Vincent Info Please - 05/21/2017 02:00 PM

I am trying to decide where to go next year, somewhere I've never been. My husband suggested St. Vincent, nothing much on here about it & I know nothing. Anybody familiar with this island and have any recommendations?

I've spent a lot of time in that area but all it on boats. St. Vincent is OK but a wee bit funky. The areas around the volcano are real cool but take a guide with you. You definitely don't want to wander into somebody's secret agricultural area.
A better choice might be one island south about 10 miles called Bequia. The people are much friendlier and you can take some day trips to some really cool islands south of that.

I agree with Rhans. The Grenadine islands are more relaxed. The locals on St Vincent tend to be a bit on the surly side

If you're up for a good hike (challenging)the views from the volcano are fantastic and would be worth spending a couple days on the island for, but as suggested Bequia is a great little palce and you can take a day trip to the Tobago Cays which are amazing.
Air Canada is flying direct to the ne airport so traveling there just got a lot easier.

From what I've read on Trip Advisor I think it's open.

Yep, stopped @ Bequia twice on the old Windjammer ships and wanted to return but my hubby thinks it's so small it would be boring. The difficulty for me is that "you can't get there from here" or at least not easily. I think the best way to see the Grenadines is by boat. After spending a month on Grenada last year (our 4th trip at least) and loving how friendly and sweet the locals are, I am disappointed to hear that St. Vincent is not as welcoming.

We have also considered Colombia and Nicaragua. So back to the drawing board....

So AC is flying directly into Bequia or St. Vincent? And is the new airport in St. Vincent really finished? Sammy, really loved your pictures of the hike to the volcoano. What an experience!

Sammy said according to T/A it is opened to air traffic. We have been waiting for the airport to open, hopefully it will give us advantage to get to the other island in the Grenadines.

AC will fly directly to St Vincent. Bequia is too small to handle large planes

Bequia airport was built on conch shell landfill!
First time we went there was no airport.
