Cigarettes on St Vincent - 12/02/2012 08:47 AM

My wife is a smoker and we are trying to decide if we need to buy cigarettes duty free or in Kingstown.

Anyone?

I'd go the duty free route.....it's not really a cost issue, smokes are cheap enough down there, but they're not necessarily what your brand is like at home. Alot of brands are made under license from foreign manufacturers. For instance, Marlboro lights aren't like the Marlboro lights in the states. Hope this helps, just my opinion of course.

It's highly likely that the cigarettes will be cheaper in St Vincent than in the duty-free - they are certainly considerably cheaper in the St Vincent supermarkets than they are at the duty-free stores in Barbados and London.

Here in St Vincent, if you buy a carton of cigarettes such as Dunhill, you will pay around $EC 47 per carton which means $EC 4.70 or $US 1.75 per packet of 20.

Didn't realize that Seth had chimed in....he's forgotten more about SVG than I'll ever know....he's right about the cost factor, it's definitely cheap sinning down there. My only point was (and is) it might be worth it to go duty free for about US$ 2.50 a pack for what you are used to. It's your call....save a buck or two per pack or get what you're used to....totally your call <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Cheers.gif" alt="" />

joeandholls - you're right, of course, about the taste - many of the cigarettes are manufactured in Trinidad and the taste ain't always what you might expect.
