looking for a place to stay on Dominica
this will be our first time so any info on good place to stay, local eats, good beach to visit would be very helpful

we like to see the island from a locals perspective, and enjoy all that it has to offer, purchase local fish and fruit and do some snorkeling too

I didn't find the food all that tasty in dominica.. in fact it occurs to me most add hot sauce to their liking... making it a personal preference.

I do remember buying the most flavourful fresh squeezed juice at scotts head, just before walking down to the rocky beach... but that doesn't answer your question either.

as for a place to stay... it's a very quiet place at night. most locals mentioned staying at a higher elevation which was cooler and easier to sleep (referring to Roseau often). if I were to do it again, I would select the guesthouses with the sulfur baths near roseau. at least I could bathe and daydream at night, listening to the crickets and let the world revolve around me.

if you are there during wet fete.. then of course you want to be closest to Roseau and the stadium as possible. the events start around midnight.

when we were there we stayed in someone's ground floor apt. so I can't help in that perspective.

I suggest you contact my favourite tour guide and ask him the same questions. he responded to me at all hours of the night (his time). he is all about customer service...he came to sxm to convince us to visit dom.. so we did. lolol

his name is Donaldson Maguire from nature isle tours. he's on tripadvisor and gets TOP rating.

he will be happy to assist in any and all matters.

enjoy. you will be rejuvenated upon your return.

ps bring warm clothes. we almost froze due to elevation, short downpours and dampness. so wish I had my winter jammies. lolol

I live in Dominica on my catamaran doing day charters out of Prince Rupert Bay so i am a good source for just about anything here. You can message me email me.
I can take you sailing and snorkeling, etc.
For cool local flavor lodging, try Barb Wire Bar and Bungalows, 767 295 2502 www.barbwirebar.com, in Picard which is next to Portsmouth and above the Ross Med School. they arre in the tree tops, with Sisserou parrots and amazing plant life, etc.
Great food and view from their restaurant The Peanut Farm Bar & Grill, see pics on facebook of that.
Aaround Roouseau is more busy and congested, unless you go towards Trafalgar. there are no beaches in that area.
instead, try Mero Beach, and the food at the Romance Cafe is excellent and not expensive. The beaches at Prince Rupert are pretty good, Sisters has nice food on the beach. The Blue Bay is good, and there is the Purple Turtle further north that is ok.
The guides here are great! Try Super Spesh, who owns the Barb Wire or Alexis.
lots of local flavor in the north, and dont miss Red Rock clay dunes by the seaside in Calibishie, also a town worth visiting with nice beaches.
Like i said, email or call me and ill fill you in on anything you need to know. Visit www.syndicatefalls.com for another easy hike to a waterfall info, etc.
It is truly the nature island here!
