Martinique - 03/07/2020 01:31 PM

We have been looking to purchase a Leopard 40 through Sunsail/Moorings based out of St. Lucia or BVI but unfortunately none have come available. They did just have one become available out of Martinique. Anyone have experience with the Martinique base, sailing the waters of Martinique or trying to do the Grenadines from Martinique?

Martinique is a fantastic area to sail! The charter base is located in Le Marin, on the southwest corner of the island. It is THE largest sailing base in the Caribbean. When you depart Le Marin you can sail the entire west coast of Martinique and never be in the same anchorage twice, if you desire. There are so many places to anchor and visit! The different villages, restaurants and bars are also fantastic!!!

Of course you can always sail further away: North to Dominica or South to Bequia and the Grenadines, if you have the inclination and time.

Martinique is a special jewel for sailors that many people don't realize, unless you are from France wink Yes, Martinique is France and one of the safer islands to visit.

The only problem that I see with having your own boat in charter in Le Marin is that many of the charterers will be French. Don't get me wrong, the French are great sailors but they never seemed to have learned a lot about anchoring properly smile

Thanks so much for the information! I haven't been to Martinique since I was a kid and since my mom passed away this past June, I wasn't able to ask her. We are still trying to figure out if we should pull the trigger! I am finding that getting to Martinique from Colorado is expensive and complicated! But the great thing is we can sail anywhere there is a Sunsail/Moorings boat as long as we are OK that we aren't on "our" boat.
