Nags Head, NC Tuna Trip

Nags Head, NC Tuna Trip - 05/18/2015 07:51 PM

Made a whirlwind trip to Nags Head, NC on the Outer Banks over the weekend to fish with Captain Bengi and his mate Burt on Sea Note.
They worked really hard for us.
They put us on yellow fin tuna, but they were a little on the smaller side.
We caught 5 and had a great day.
The weather was perfect and we saw a ton of sea life - dolphin, whale, mako sharks jumping out of the water, huge rays, and schools of baitfish hitting the surface.

The sushi was heavenly! Nothing like fresh tuna.

I discovered a trick this year.
I'm terrible at making sticky sushi rice.
There are several sushi restaurants around here who have a huge vat of the stuff on hand at all times, and you can buy a pint of already-cooked rice for about $5 that will make 24 pieces of sushi. Saves me something like an hour of prep.

The Outer Banks are a national treasure and one of the places in the US everyone should visit.
