Daytona/Ormond Beach Area

Daytona/Ormond Beach Area - 02/17/2017 06:06 PM

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what this beach and area is like? I'm sure the beach is not like Clearwater, but is it nice? Sand? Water? Wondering if it is warm enough in April/May to sun and surf in a bathing suit or is it still too chilly? TY

If you're talking is the WATER warm enough to get in at that time of year, no, not for me, certainly, but I live in Florida! It's the Atlantic, so going to be colder than the Gulf, even at the same time. I see you're from Pittsburgh, so you may be made of sterner stuff! The air temps should be fine by May. I still very much prefer the Gulf Coast to the Atlantic side beaches.

Isn't that just the way it is. I remember calling home to Boston on my first Christmas in South Florida and bragging about being on the beach all day. 70 and beautiful, swimming all day. Three years later, same weather and sitting around in a sweater wondering when it was going to warm up.
Daytona wasn't the spring break Capitol of the world for so many years because it was cold (and that was in March). Go enjoy, if you run into cold weather, take in an attraction.

I see you now live in Tennessee. I have to say, even when we lived in Virginia, when we went to the Bahamas in December and the temps were around 70, I was freezing my a$$ off!!!

I hear you. It takes a lot to get me in these days but once I'm in, I'm in. Was in Kenebunk(sp) last August and stayed in all day. Feet turned blue but was with the kids so why not. I was in the Florida panhandle for 10 years and thought the gulf was warmer than the east coast hands down. I am a beach guy so I will go in anytime, any where.

We didn't have plans on going anywhere this year. Too many other commitments. However friends of ours own a house on Ormond Beach and offered it to us for the week. I've been to Florida quite a few times and of course prefer the gulf side. And a little later in the year when it's a little warmer. However we were offered this house for this week. Was just interested in what the conditions might be.

For a free house on/near any beach for a week the conditions inside will be warm and toasty!!
