TTOL Member Map

I'm not sure if there's interest in this, but I'll throw it out there and see if anything sticks. I'm curious to see how far the TTOL network reaches. Maybe I have TTOL'ers in my city, Austin, and I don't even know it! On the site, you can drill into each member profile and typically see a member's home city, etc. But it would be cool to see it on a map (very generally speaking - no specific home addresses, of course.). If you want to participate in this experiment, fill out this brief form. I'll load them into a BatchGeo map and post soon.

Great responses so far. Here's an example of how it will look. You can click on the pin drop to see the TTOL member name and, if provided, email address. I'll post updates along the way.

Here is the updated map as of a couple of minutes ago. I'll still consider it a work in progress so keep the responses coming! We have around 85 pins on the map so far! Jeannius, I've relocated you across the pond from Worcester, MA to Worcester UK. And I just saw two more come in - will get to those later tonight.

New update! 134 pins on the map! Jdud133, you've been relocated back to MA (leading zero on the zip was dropped and messed it up). Let me know if anyone sees anything else that looks wrong. Keep them coming and I'll update as needed. Looking forward to loading up the backpack and staying at fellow TTOL'ers throughout Europe. Tip, you can search for a specific member by typing their ID in the search block in the upper-right.

Just tried to submit but the form balks at state and Zip - won't accept Toronto and Ontario

So if I start out in Buffalo looks like I can head up through Canada to Nova Scotia then down the East coast then turn up through La. and then out west and then up the PCH and head back dipping down into Co. and back to NY....TTOL cross country Road Trip!!!!!

For Canada just enter your city, province and postal code. I'll clean it up when it comes in. Sorry I was shot sighted on the form.

I wrote an X in state and entered my Swedish zip code (also 5 numbers) and it worked.

"Shot sighted", as in starting work with a painkiller?

did mine...actually did it twice since the map located me near Ft.Wayne IND and I thought that my registration did not go thru...and I live about 1 1/2 hours south of there...Fountain City...just north of I-70 but other than that this map idea is great..thanks!!

Happy Father's Day map update! 214 pins dropped on the map, so far. I've also gone back and made some of the reported mistakes. Keep the new posts and comments coming. Getting impressive.

Seems to be a problem with several pins duplicated in south america and the one in thailand showing up middle of pacific below equatot.

tpcook, thanks for the response. I'm not seeing the same, but I've noticed that if you look at it on a phone or tablet (iphone or ipad for me), the pins and map sometimes get off-sync if you quickly scroll around. May want to zoom out and then back again. Seems to be much more solid on a laptop/desktop. Let me know if others see anything strange like that though.

This is absolutely great, don't get me wrong, but where are we going to be able to find the map in future? Really need mods to place it somewhere as a 'sticky' or else all your hard work will be wasted as no-one will be able to find it in a couple of months time. Help please moderators.....

Here are a few updates related to the TTOL map.

- The map has been updated with 249 entries and can be fond online here - TTOL Member Map

- In truth, I have 279 people who have submitted entries. When I started this thought, I didn't know if we would get 50 responses. Turns out that the free version of BatchGeo only allows 250 entries on each map (upgraded Pro version is $99/month - no thanks). So let me think of another option to support the growing responses. Recommendations are welcome.

- The map and form was shared by a member with the Saint Martin forum. I've never been to SXM, but I'd love to! Anyway, some of the latest entries may be from that group. But someone in that section has volunteered to do their own map. So the latest group of people on this particular map may be from the SXM forum, but we're all of the same spirit and interests!

- Further, I'm super swamped with this work thing. So I'll get to updates asap and will figure out an alternative to accommodate the growing list in another free map service.

I'm excited there was so much interest in this and hope that it turns into new connections in the community!

FYI - I've noticed that there are a lot of duplicates in your list on the left side of the display... some names even show up 3 times.

Wow, I just looked at the TTOL Map form, and we've received 36 new entries since my last post in April! Time for an update!

Now up to 470 pins on the map. New pin drops in China and Spain, too!

I may hit a problem if our map goes over 500 pins (forcing me to pay $$$ to keep it up). Let me know if anyone has a recommendation for a free web-hosted mapping software that allows me to upload spreadsheets (I was already pushed out of batchgeo.com when the map got bigger).

Time for an update to the TTOL Member Map! I've been taken away from the board and this map for some time, so I'm excited to get back to it. We now have 497 entries on the map! The latest update includes a pin drop on Switzerland, Scotland, and four more entries from my native country (Texas).

I'm not sure if this map is being grandfathered after Zeemaps restricted their free map service. I'll just keep uploading new contacts until we bust it.

Ain't that the truth. I've flown out of Newark to West Palm Beach to visit my mother. The wheelchair parade onto the plane holds up everything, but God forbid you get in front of any of them running off the plane when it lands.

Think we're already on the map but, just in case, we moved from Leverick Bay, North Sound, to Bradenton, Fl aka Lakewood Ranch roughly 8-years ago (2007-8) and are loving life!!! There are various definitions of "island life" and it's challenges but we wouldn't change a thing however it's not for the faint of heart OR the wee pocket book...
