Interesting. The elderly (90s) mother of a friend, who lives in a retirement home in Washington State hasn't been able to get hers yet. Gotta wonder exactly what's going on there. Also, shouldn't topics like this be in People Talk?

Agreed. Moving it now.

I get my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine Wednesday. My wife got her second dose on Jan. 6th. She had no side effects from either dose.

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 01/18/2021 07:51 PM

It seems like they are getting handled differently all over!!

Then there are people who are somehow able to get to the front of the line----it's pretty
much like everything else that is going on right now---crazy.
Hopefully they won't add any other large groups of
people to the first group.

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 01/18/2021 08:18 PM

The Feds left it up to the states to determine how to distribute the vaccines, but gave them no money to do so. Then the states mostly dumped it on the local governments, and again, gave them no money to do so....

Washington State just opened it up to anybody over the age of 65. Every day something changes. Now Costco, Microsoft and Starbucks is getting into our program.

Thanks. Yes, they gave us a card with the date and time for the second shot.

Thats great. Some places in WA St don't make the follow up appointment for you. They just gave us a 5 day window to try and make an appointment in online. Like what they did for you better.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/11/2021 12:43 AM

Yes, that gives me a lot more confidence, to have a pre-made appointment. Others that we have spoken to have said they also received a confirmed 2nd appointment when they got their first shot.

Jaybird, did you have any adverse effects from the second Pfizer dose? We got our first on Tuesday and are scheduled for our second on March 2. Just curious.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/11/2021 02:15 PM

Scubaman--my arm is a little sore, but that's it. Eric does not even have a sore arm. We'll see how the second one goes.
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/11/2021 04:09 PM

That's great. I had a sore arm too and was a little off next day but my wife was OK other than a sore arm too. Hoping the same for second shot come Feb 22nd.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/11/2021 04:25 PM

Even the printed material we got regarding the shot from Moderna said that the reaction from the 2nd shot is often much more intense. We'll see..
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/11/2021 04:40 PM

We'll see. Ours was the Pfizer but it also said the same.

Vaccine #2 (Moderna) for my wife today. So far, she has experienced chills and said it definitely hurt much more than the first dose.

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/17/2021 01:31 AM

Our cousin who is a respiratory therapist says that the side effects are evidence that your body is building the antibodies needed to fight the virus. It's a good thing.
Posted By: ruralcarrier

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/17/2021 10:59 AM

Very sore arm today, largely due to the placement as the persona administering the shot was more concerned about talking than watching what they were doing. Much higher on her arm than the previous shot. So far, just the chills last night and soreness.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/17/2021 04:03 PM

Glad it seems like minimal side effects so far. My shot was very far up my arm, as was Eric's.
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/17/2021 04:08 PM

Both our shots were higher on arm too. In talking with people that had second shot the Moderna vaccine gave more side effects than the Pfizer vaccine. I'll see how ours goes Monday.

Thank you Carol. I'll post how it goes and how I feel next day. So far it's still on schedual as I was sent an email for pre registration. Been lots of cancellations this last week but mostly for the Moderna and not Pfizer. We won't rest till it's in our arms.

Lots of cancellations all across the country last week, due to weather problems.

I know. Had lots of friends get their appointments for second Moderna canceled this last week. So far I hadn't heard anyone get canceled for Pfizer. Fingers crossed.

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/22/2021 05:07 PM

I am on 11 different lists waiting...

Steve and I signed up on the same day...he was called the next week and has now had both vaccines.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/22/2021 05:38 PM

Cathy--that's weird. Are you both the same age? We were on about 6 different lists, but our number did come up.

Fortunately, we have both gotten our first shot, but the roll out all over the country seems uneven, to say the least. Many people around here have reported just dumb luck in being able to get the shot, being in the right place at the right time. One of Eric's clients, who happened to be visiting a nursing home on the same date they were giving out shots to their residents, was able to get a shot, just because she happened to be visiting that day. She qualified, as far as age, but just got lucky. ...and then of course there are the numerous reports of whole GOLFING communities of 3K residents being able to get the shots at the same time, while those around them stay on waiting lists for months on end..

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/22/2021 09:23 PM

We got our second Pfizer shot today. So far so good for both of us. he nurse that gave us our shots said when she got her second Moderna shot she was laid up for 2 days, She told us the Pfizer second shot produced much milder effects on majority of people. Guess I'll no more tomorrow. Just glad it's done with.

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/22/2021 10:35 PM

Carol...Steve is 3 years older than me but I am 65 and i am considered a front line worker.

Steve had no reaction to the first shot...the second shot he was very lethargic and slept a lot but woke up just fine the next day. He got the Pfizer shots.

Missouri rates LAST in vaccines...I am so proud...NOT

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/23/2021 12:32 AM

Yes. So far so good. Little stiffness in arm but expected that. Just feels good to have it behind me. Nurse that gave shots advised us to travel with vaccine card. We plan on storing it with our passports.
Posted By: Cathyg

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/23/2021 12:47 AM

I certainly would keep my shot record with my passport...and also take a picture of it with your phone just incase it gets lost or stolen.

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/23/2021 12:54 AM

I plan on laminating it, once I get my second shot.
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/23/2021 12:58 AM

That's a great idea to laminate it. On my to do list for sure. Thanks. 👍

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/23/2021 12:59 AM

We have pictures of our important documents on our phone and stored on our computer. You never know when you might need them. This was recommended to us by passport health when we got our yellow fever shots to go to Africa. People like to steal these documents to gain access into countries that require the vaccinations.
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/23/2021 01:03 AM

Thanks for that. We do have color copies of passports and always travel with certified copies medical POA and directives. Never know when needed.

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/23/2021 01:59 PM

Scubaman--so, maybe you're not up yet, since you're on the left coast, but how are you feeling this morning?
Posted By: SXMScubaman

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/23/2021 04:00 PM

Pretty good. Just a little rummy but that could be because I took 2 Tylenol PM's last night and slept hard till 7:00 PST. No fever or aches and pain outside the normal old man stiffness in mornng. My wife is pretty much the same with a few stiff muscles. Other than a little soreness in arm we wouldn't know we had the shot. Hope that's the way rest of day goes. Thanks for checking in.

Wife and I got our first shot (Pfizer) January 28th. We were scheduled for our second dose February 18th, but due to the cold weather that hit the U.S. the week before, our 2nd shot was postponed. We just got a call that we are now scheduled for Friday the 26th for our second dose. Hopefully all will go well and they will receive them to shoot us up with.

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/24/2021 03:18 AM

Final update. Pretty much no reaction. Little funky this morning but nothing now. Important to keep well hydrated to get it out of system. Same with my wife too.

Re: Vaccine Appt made - 02/24/2021 08:15 PM

I was quite surprised today to get an email from another waiting list I had signed up for, offering me a shot tomorrow morning. I was very happy to reply that I had already received my first shot. I had looked before and couldn't figure out any way to get myself OFF that waiting list, unless I called, and it is impossible to get through on the phone. I have some friends and clients who have not been able to get theirs yet. Wish I could have offered them my spot, but of course it doesn't work like that.

Carol, you may want to check out my previous post regarding 'safe to travel' on SXM Talk. My guess is that you'll have very few issues. No way to tell for sure, but as we get older so do our immune systems and in most of us they won't react in a manner similar to a younger person. You'll still be fully protected 14 days down the road, side effects or not.

No.

Dr. Fauci and other reputable sources generally state that most side effects appear within 8 to 72 hours after either shot. There are some long term side effects, rare, which may appear as much as six weeks after shot. Some very very rare side effects can, of course, appear almost immediately after shot.
