Holiday Inn Joberg Airport

Holiday Inn Joberg Airport - 04/01/2005 03:45 AM

Does anyone have any experience at the Holiday Inn at the Johannesburg Airport?? We will be spending a day there after landing in Africa, before we head out to Vic Falls. I understand there is really not much to do in that immediate area??? We will be arriving at about 9 AM and hope we can get an early check-in, but Wilderness Safaris is not promising us anything. Has anyone had any luck in getting an early check-in at a hotel around Joberg??

As far as variety and quality of shops goes it is one of the best duty-free airports in the world. But the prices can be much higher than in the regular shops!

We will be in Vic Falls for a couple of days and the rest of the time will be in Botswana in safari camps, so we don't think we will have much opportunity to shop other than in the airport coming home. For truly AFRICAN things, are there some things that you would recommend purchasing at the airport??

I stayed there a day when I had problems with a cancelled flight. It was fine. What to do? I believe you can book activities right at the hotel desk. I spent the day in Soweto and it was a marvelous experience. There are morning and afternoon tours at the DeWildt Cheetah Sanctuary. I had been advised to do a private tour instead of the scheduled tours for my upcoming trip. Just found out today that the sanctuary is closed on Wednesday, so I won't be doing that, but it sounded like a fun activity.

I was there in 2004 and purchased some beautiful items in one of the shops at the Airport. I'd love to buy more and thought perhaps I could do it online. Can you think of anyway to get a list of the shops in the airport?

Thanks Judy from PT WA
