Hi

There’s a nice review of taking pictures of stars with a digital camera - but it makes extensive use of controls that may not be on entry level cameras : http://www.astropix.com/HTML/I_ASTROP/SETTINGS.HTM . The article does show a DSLR aat the top of the page, though. Locking the mirror up and a really steady mount are really important. Also unsharp mask really helps for good sized star fields (like Orion) with post-processing (e.g. with Photoshop or my fave software - Picture Window). Haven’t done this recently after giving my Canon Rebel II to my grand-daughter, who’s definitely is not into astrophotography.

Peace
