Boat motor?

Boat motor? - 07/21/2009 03:46 PM

I know many of you guys don't like Emeril, so hate to use an Emeril saying, but I wonder how many of you guys have what Emeril calls a 'boat motor'?? You know, the blender thing you put in the pot, as opposed to putting things in the regular blender. What is the real name of it?? Anyway, I don't have one, and several recipes I have seen posted lately, it seems that one would come in handy. Thoughts?

C, they are Immersion blenders. Can be useful.

I believe they are called immersion blenders. I know Cuisinart, Braun, and Kitchenaid all make them. I like mine, but you do have to be careful about the blade.

I have one by Braun, which also has a removeable mini-chopper that you can use with the motor. I love it. It's so much easier to use than putting hot liquid into the blender to puree. The important thing is to make sure it is completely immersed in the liquid or you will have a huge mess.

I've had one for 25 yrs.......yes, 25 yrs. and yesterday it passed away!
A Kitchenaid. Dang, I loved that thing. I used it for everything! Scrambled eggs, mixing batters, smoothies......it made some wonderful love for this family. I guess I'll have to spring for a new one. Hopefully, it will be as good as this oldie......

We have had the Kitchen-Aid for about ten years now...
It gets lots of use...
Very powerful and came with a mini-food processor attachment...
Before that we had Brauns, a few of them, but got tired of them getting tired...

Until I read it, I couldn't imagine why a thread called "Boat Motor" was in the RECIPE section !

Have you ever seen the really big ones they use in restaurants? They really are about the size of an electric boat motor!!

I've used one for a good 20 years and find it easy to use as well as clean. Quick and easy. However I learned that using it for mashed potatoes liquefies them a bit too much.

Re: Boat motor? - 07/25/2009 09:49 PM

Ah!! Interesting!! Our local Chamber of Commerce is probably going to do some food for a Labor Day deal, and we were thinking about chili dogs, but didn't want to deal with the beans in the premade chili in the can. And don't tell us to make it from scratch, as no one wants to get that ambitious. Do you put beans in the chili for hotdogs??? How would it turn out if we used the boat motor on chili with beans in it??

Oh, and BTW, it arrived today!! Will have to try it out probably tomorrow for something..

Re: Boat motor? - 07/25/2009 10:40 PM

Carol, one of my sons loves my chili but hates beans. So what I did for him was I took some of the beans out and pureed them and then put them and some of the rest of the chili in another pot for him. He loved it and never knew the difference. Personally I think you just have to have the flavor of the beans in the chili!

Thanks, annie! I hate beans myself, so good to know I can just puree them and I won't even notice!

HeeHee... our grandaugter, Kali, loves steak, and will not eat anything else except chicken...
so when Jimmy makes Pork Chops, he just tells her it's steak, and she eats it right down...

My father says he hates any recipe with vinegar...
so we just don't tell him it's in there... and he always says... fantastic...

I have probably had five of them over the past 20 years. I cannot live without it. I have a always called it a Buerre Blender. Not sure if it is an old brand name or the professional name. The one we have at work weighs about 20 lbs and you just put it in a five gallon bucket of something and it will puree in seconds (great for fresh tomtoes). We also use it to make five gallons of salad dressing at a time. Very convienient. Looks like a jack hammer made by Robot Coupe. I use my smaller one at home to make guacamole, mix girly driks, mole sauce and of course soups
