Valentine's Dinner

Posted By: GaKaye

Valentine's Dinner - 02/13/2010 12:45 AM

Is anyone else planning a special at-home meal for Valentine's Day? Since our anniversary is February 27, we usually stay home for Valentine's Day, and go out for our anniversary. I'm planning on making Sole Meuniere, with butternut squash risotto and roasted asparagus. For dessert, Molten Chocolate Baby Cakes which I've posted here before. The sole recipe is from Ina Garten.

What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

georgia, i plan on making a special dinner at home, although it's been a hectic week to say the least and no planning done yet... i have all of ina's cookbooks. i'm a big fan of hers. can you repost the molten lava babycake recipe? i make this using paula dean's recipe (10lbs of butter later...) molten lava is a nice treat and would love to try out your recipe. thanks.

We're doing dinner at home tonight for V Day. Planning on seared scallops wrapped in bacon, asparagus and Thai green curry rice. Not sure about dessert yet, but chocolate will be involved somehow... LOL

Stupid question, but how do you do those scallops?? I have some of the huge ones, and would love to do bacon wrapped scallops.. I positively LOATHE limp, raw bacon though. Is there a way to do them so the bacon is relatively well done?

pre-nuke the bacon, wrap about scallops, broil for a few minutes...should do the trick!

just don't overcook the bacon--you want it to still be pliable to wrap the scallops

I posted it on its own thread so it wouldn't get lost here:

It was only OK. Made it from a low carb recipe in a cookbook. I used some chicken sausage that I had in the freezer that was somewhat freezer burned, so it gave it a funny whang, and put in some leftover turkey that I had in the freezer .. I was not impressed, so not sure I will post it....

Actually, for my bacon wrapped scallops, I buy a package of that precooked bacon. It's limp enough to be easy to wrap around the scallop, but firm enough to be easy to use, and crisps up nicely as the scallops cook.

OK, thanks. I may try that!

and wrap the scallops as soon as you get the bacon out of the nuke... or fry pan... while still pliable... and then cook scallops right away...

We had a big old center cut prime rib (five rib) last night in the Adirodacks with all the kids & grandkids...
Tonite, we had sub sandwiches (how romantic!)... after the long ride home...

anything can be romantic if it's with the one you love, even sub sandwiches. no idea what we're having tonight. i'm too tired to cook and boyfriend doesn't know how to fry an egg...

we got our sub sandwiches at a little Sunoco Gas Station "Food & Fuel" in Mayfield, NY on the way home...
(one of the best subs I have ever had, served on a perfect baguette)...
Ate half for lunch in the car on the way home, and the other half for dinner!
Probably have an oreo or two with milk for dessert!

Well, unfortunately I threw my back out Friday, so I've been pretty much out of commission all weekend. I guess our fancy Valentine's Day dinner will have to wait until next weekend..
