We're doing a marinated top round on the grill, along with corn on the cob, salad and garlic bread. What's everyone else eating tonight?? (..or maybe already eaten?? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Smile.gif" alt="" />)

Olive Bruschetta on baguette (with cream cheese)... for apps..
Burgers... from local (real) butcher... half sirloin/half chuck...
ground and mixed when you order it...
about 1 hour before they hit the grill...
burgers packed very losely (1/3 to 1/2 pound each)! served on fresh baked Onion Rolls...

Done on a HOT (about 550F) grill... about 3 mins a side... Done RARE!
Various cheeses to choose from (yes... SXM Gouda)...
thin sliced sweet (Peruvian) onion... portabella mushrooms... tomato... shreaded lettuce...
fresh, homemade, horseradish sauce (clears the sinus', no allergies here!)...

Side of Mac salad with onion/peppers/shreaded carrots/fresh, local, sugar snap peas...
Garden Salad...
and lots of fresh local yellow squash... with REAL butter, and a dash of fresh nutmeg!

Apple Pie &/or Pistachio Gelato for dessert...

Nothin' Better on a great Memorial Day!

Sounds good!

By the way, we decided this trip to SXM to bring back an extra wheel of gouda for gifts for family/friends/etc. The cheapest price we found was at the Cash n Carry, at about 52 guilders for the 3.5 kilo wheel (I think that is the name?? The place on the road behind the Harley dealership). Grand Marche was 54 guilders..

We also brought back a wheel... but we got ours at GM...
I just love it on a burger with onions & mushrooms...
We made wedges and used the Foodsaver on them and froze them...

We don't have a food saver, but we freeze ours in wedges also.

Carol, we only got our foodsaver recently (about 6 mos)... so I figured I'd use it...
Gouda wedges have always frozen well for us in the Glad Freezer bags in the past...
I always wrapped them in plastic wrap first, then put them in the Ziplocs...

Haven't bothered with plastic wrap, just the ziplock baggies and haven't had any problems yet with freezer burn, although we use them within 3 or 4 months..

Are you referring to PRIME Carol? We found lots of great bargains there on our last trip. We were sorry we did not buy the cheese there.

Remember the name Cash and Carry on the store front.

The cheese was 2 naf less, good price on the liquor that they had.

I believe the store is called Prime Cash and Carry.

Yes Eric, we found the best prices on liquor there and the wine and beer prices were excellent too!

I bought a food saver last month and it's my new favorite toy. Wish I had bought one ages ago.

Used a food saver for years when I was feeding hordes of boys and bought everything in bulk. Did a great job.

Now, one of the boys has it. let them feed the hordes!

I still use one, even though I've never fed hordes, and now it's just the two of us! I like to buy in bulk because I'm never without the ability to make a great meal from my pantry. It also works great to keep staples fresh in the mountain cabin, since they don't get used up as quickly there.

We've never had hordes either, just I always buy whatever is on sale and keep it in the freezer..

Unfortunately, I don't have a freezer big enough to store bulk anymore.

But I did pick up the new little food saver mini pump. Going to give that a try.

Elaine, I would think food storage is a real issue for you there, as often what you buy isn't particularly fresh when you get it. I remember one year we bought some shrimp on our first grocery shop of a visit, and they spoiled before we got ready to cook them two days later. Now we shop at least two or three times a week while we're there.

I shop several times a week due to availability. You can never get what you need all in the same day! Or in the same store. Things go bad very quickly. All meat/fish goes into the freezer unless it is dinner tonite!

Of course - then GEBE decides to play with the fridge!
