How has your cooking style "changed" - 01/25/2011 03:15 PM

OK... My cooking style has changed a LOT over the years...
I used to cook with a lot of spices... so much so that you couldn't even taste the base dish...
Now my tastes have changed so I cook with much less spice, and would rather taste the subtile flavors of the underlying ingredients...
for example,
15 years ago my crab cakes were so hot with Old Bay, you couldn't even taste the crab...
Now I use only a pinch of Old Bay! BUT, you can taste crab with every bite!

Over five years ago, I lost twenty pounds on the South Beach Diet, and since then have loosely followed that way of eating. I use more fresh ingredients and almost no processed foods. I avoid "white" foods and eat as many whole foods as I can. I find it makes it easy to maintain a healthy weight.

You have the best diet ever. I follow much the same, limited white foods, limited sugar and have eliminated all processed foods. Our state of mind is, more than five (5) ingredients and IF we can not pronounce the ingredients, we do not eat it. Does not mean that I will not eat a 'Snickers' bar on a special occasion. But this has worked for me for years. I am 5'5" and weigh 127. And I am not young in years. Just young at heart. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Groovin.gif" alt="" />

we have basically eliminated white foods too...
with the exception of a nice baguette about once a week or two...
(whole grain baguettes just don't make it)...
That's one white food we can't resist!

I though about the "South Beach" but went with the "South 40" instead. Plenty of red meat, bourbon, beer and BBQ. Have not lost a single pound but I have only given the diet a couple of years to work, I will show my patience with it!

Realistically, yes I have changed my diet, not as saucy as I once was. Also, a lot pickier with the ingredients.

For me, I have widened the horizon so to speak after watching the food network. I now will try new things some work out, some don't
