Desert Sun Resort

Good Morning,
We are considering a stay at DS, and I have a question. Is it nude always poolside or clothing optional? I love to swim naked, she loves to sun naked, but I'm not always comfortable just sitting in a lounger reading sans a cover up. Is that ok here?
Any feedback from veterans of the DSR would be very welcome, we have never been to Palm Springs, it sounds as though we can walk to dinner at local restaurants from the resort. Is that true?

bathing suits or other coverups are not allowed on the pool deck. Will someone say something to you? probably not. But why would you want to go to a nudist resort and be covered up.
Most people remain nude throughout the resort at all times.

There are several good restaurants within walking distance including Ricks,which is right across the street. Many choices for food and beverage await you just a few minutes drive to downtown.

Oh I forgot to mention that there is a restaurant at the resort. I think it is open for lunch/dinner Thursday-Sunday, but double check. The food is good and you need not get dressed for dinner. Just take a towel to sit on.

I have never been to Desert Sun resort myself, but according to their website, they are clothing optional, except on the pool deck itself. Please check out Desert Sun's website, where it says "We are clothes free in the pools, jacuzzis and on the pool decks. You are free to be nude or wear what is comfortable anywhere else on the resort grounds. There is still plenty of grass around the pool if you feel more comfortable in a sarong. It is the best of both worlds."

So, according to their website, if you don't care to sunbathe nude, you can sit on the grass without any problem, just you're not supposed to have clothing on the pool deck. I think that most likely after you've been there for a couple of days, you will be fine sunbathing nude, but it is up to you. Personally, I find most nudists to be extremely accepting of others, regardless of their state of dress or undress. I don't find a reason myself to worry about what others wear or don't wear.

We were once rookies too, and DSR was our very first visit to a nude resort. We (I) chose DSR due to it's nude policy, I wanted my wife and I to be in the same boat as everyone else there. I thought it'd be uncomfortable to have our first attempt at the nude thing with people around us in varying states of dress rather than everybody nude. I'm sure we would have opted to stay somewhat clothed rather than jump in with both feet.

We now visit DSR at least twice a year and wish it was more often.

To your question, if you emerge from the pools and lay on a lounger to dry off and opt to throw a towel over yourself you'll be perfectly fine. If you emerge from the pool and put on some shorts and a tank top and plop on a lounger you may have a nice employee ask you to move off the pool deck. The DSR people are not vigilant, but they do try to apply the rules to all guests fairly.

Like Carol, I think after about an hour you'll wonder why you even cared and enjoy the beautiful grounds, sunshine, pools, freedom without a concern.

We've wanted to try DS for some time and finally booked a week for next April. Part of the impetus is Jet Blue's non-stop from JFK.

Have been to DS twice earlier this year. The second stay was in one of the courtyard units which were recently remodeled, a bit more expensive than the older Chapparal hotel units but worth it. Much nicer than the hotel units and some have a larger fridge and a bar area. The courtyard walkway comes out by the quiet pool and the covered hot tub. The quiet pool has nice lounges that offer a bit more privacy and more shade if desired. Our first trip I did not realize that there is parking around the side, south side, of the complex with combination locking access doors which lead into the courtyard central area. Parking in front is usually filled up so this was a great place to park, bring in groceries and luggage, etc.
The restaurant/bar is nice, has good service, and good food. In the afternoon drinks are offered poolside at the main pool. If there is a big enough crowd there may be a pool volleyball game going in the afternoon too.
Had very delightful stays.
