Lighthouse Beach- any update?

Lighthouse Beach- any update? - 06/08/2013 07:16 PM

There was big news while it was still cold that NY would no longer tolerate nudity on LH Beach. Is there any defiance to this?

"defiance"???
Go there and defy the law so we can see what happens.

There was a destruction of sand dunes after Irene in Aug of 2011 and after Sandy the entire boardwalk access and dune barriersd were all leveled. The beach is flat and not the same. The erosion was getting too severe for 1000's of daily beachgoers also. The new supt. from Alaska {Lena H. wants to ban all nudity of Fire Island but we're hopeful of some compromise by next year for an area futher east <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Exactly...One must read between the lines of some of the advice given about so called nude friendly public areas.
They are only as friendly as the ranger or police officer that is patrolling at that specific time.

PHX - THIS is a sample of what you can do. The complete NAC Report can be read here

*WHAT IS NAC ASKING YOU TO DO?*
We're in PHASE 2 of this effort. NAC is asking you to take the following
specific action immediately:
* 1) SHOW UP. CONTINUE OCCUPYING LIGHTHOUSE BEACH*
If we stay home or go elsewhere, we've lost. Nature abhors a vacuum, and
if we're not there, someone else will be. Forcing our removal from the
beach is exactly what the Seashore management wants.

* 2) WHAT TO WEAR*
NAC will not / cannot dictate what you must wear - or not wear. NAC
recommends you chose the minimal coverage that satisfies New York State
law. The French have called it "le minimum." You may call it a thong, a
G-string, a pouch, or Butt Floss.

Women do not have to wear tops. Remember that while New York Statute
245.01 (Exposure of a Person) attempts to prohibit the public exposure
of female breasts, New York case law (People v. Santorelli - Court of
Appeals of New York - 1992) modifies the statutory law to allow the
noncommercial exposure of female breasts.

* 3) WHERE TO GO AT LIGHTHOUSE BEACH*
Some of the traditional areas at Lighthouse Beach have been placed off
limits. The Park Service rationale for this is thin and largely
unsupported. We will continue challenging that.

At the site, let's keep the issue simple. Do not enter areas that have
been marked as "CLOSED." Doing so allows other laws to be applied, it
confuses matters and risks a loss of focus.

Remember that with the edict that abrogated the tradition of
clothing-optional use in designated areas, the exclusion zone in front
of the lighthouse has disappeared, too. GO THERE, wearing your best
G-string.

At this time, NAC is not recommending other places on Fire Island.

* 4) GO TO THE RESTROOMS*
Seashore management has never been big on supplying Port-o-pots anywhere
near the clothing-optional users on Lighthouse Beach. Yet Superintendent
Soller seems perturbed that anyone might "go" in the ocean.

Use the restrooms at the Lighthouse. Wearing "le minimum," of course. If
you are New York legal, resist the urge to cover up as you approach the
lighthouse.

* 5) CONTINUE BEING GOOD STEWARDS OF THE RESOURCE*
Pack out your trash - and other people's trash - just as you have always
done. Now, more than ever, we need to be seen as responsible stewards of
the Seashore environment.

* 6) UNDERSTAND THAT WE'RE ALL UNDER SCRUTINY*
.. and not just for nudity. There's never a good time for citations and
arrests for illicit behavior on OUR BEACH. This would a particularly BAD
time for it. It's no longer enough to control your own behavior. Tell
your friends and others on the beach.

* 7) INTERFACING WITH PARK SERVICE PERSONNEL*
Be polite. There is no point in being otherwise, even though you may
find the whole thing to be heavy-handed and arbitrary.

2014, I thought this was describing 1814,1914 or 1974. Right 2014. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cloud.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/usflag.gif" alt="" />

We went afew times to support the NAC recommendations in August. There were a few supporters like ourselves wearing the skimpiest of swimsuits and no tops for the ladies. Spoke to the few people and the mood was not good. Many are disheartened by the turn of events. The dunes at LightHouse are starting to return and NAC is correct; no ecosystem emergency exsists. A point was made on the signs saying CLOTHING REQUIRED. At SP, we stayed behind our windscreen naked and covered when the rangers or police drove by. Both were very nice and new we were naked behind there. No Problem, but like I said we did cover up by putting our botttoms across if not on. We do miss the naked walks on the beach though and the naked swims. Keep all informed if our beach comes back to the way it should. NUDE.

It's not your beach. It's a public beach. That is why you have to conform to the rules of the majority of the public. Public beaches unforunately attract good people as well as the bad element. Add nudity and the bad element is attracted in the form of the sexual deviant with a camera and, also, those that like to perform in public.

You are fighting a losing battle. The eastcoast is over populated. Beaches are in demand. There is no where to run and hide and to be nude without trouble following or someone being insulted by the sight of your nude body.

That's reality...

And here I thought this country was a place where the minority had a voice.

You do if you belong to a specific MINORITY.

There is no such thing as affirmative action as it pertains to NUDITY.

OK, since no one is likely to be going to Lighthouse Beach in the near future, and this thread has degenerated into something else, will close this one here. If there is any specific new information in future, I'm sure someone will start a new thread.
