Couples Sans Souci review

Couples Sans Souci review - 04/13/2010 05:34 PM

We just got back from another trip to Couples Sans Souci. This was our second trip to Sans Souci in 2 years.

Couples Sans Souci is an older style resort with some of the most magnificent grounds we have seen anywhere. The resort is built on a cliff with the first 2 blocks of rooms (A&B block) on the main beach area and the other buildings built up the cliff connected by a series of stairs, Building C towards the bottom and G block being the top. There are 139 steps to get from the beach area to the lobby. Not complaining since we needed the exercise.

We stayed in room G15A. There were another 34 stairs to climb from the lobby. It used to be a penthouse suite that was split into 2 rooms. Our room had a huge veranda that looked out over the ocean and for us it was just what we wanted. We loved sitting outside around sunset to enjoy the view. The veranda had a table and 4 chairs a couch and 2 loungers, was very private. No one could look in from the sides or above. If you want privacy this is it. The room itself was a good size and kept clean. The mini-bar was kept stocked with the usuals and you could request other items off a bar menu by ticking off boxes much like a room service breakfast menu.

The food was good. Breakfasts were a buffet style with an omelet station. Servers were always coming around to refill water glasses and coffee cups. We ate most lunches at Sunset Beach. They had a buffet setup there from 12:30 as well as grill items. We had the buffet the first day we were there along with a couple of Jamaican patties found it pretty good. We only went to the main restaurant for one lunch and had all the rest at Sunset Beach.

Dinners consisted of the beach night on Tuesday and the Grand Gala on Friday which were set up on the main lawn area and were well done. We had a repeaters dinner on Thursday night for couples that had been before. The other 4 nights were split 2 nights each at Casanova’s and Palazzina’s. One night we got the last Lobster night of the season. Food and service was good at both restaurants. The only complaints we had was the house wines they had were not to our liking. Why with so many good Chilean wines out there, why they picked these I don’t know.

The main reason for going back to Sans Souci was to park ourselves on Sunset Beach (the au naturel beach) for the week and basically do very little. Other than get up to get a drink and of course climbing stairs, lounging on the beach getting an all-over tan was our main activity. The weather was great. We had a morning shower one day for a couple of minutes and a light drizzle during the beach party for maybe 5 minutes.

The only extra we treated ourselves to this trip was a couple’s massage. It was well worth the price ($130 each).

It was a great week and we plan on going back again soon.
