Seasoned Carry On Travelers--sunscreen question

quick question for all those seasoned travelers who only pack for sailing in a carry on. What do you do about sunscreen? We would have no problems for the sunscreen we use for faces only, but with 8 of us onboard we typically go through a lot of the Copperton water and sweat resistant stuff.

My guess is if you are a carry on only traveler, you just buy when you are there, knowing you may not get the exact brand you want, but pretty darn close.

Skin cancer ain't no joke, so just looking for some advice.

We both bring 2 bottles each of Kiss My Face 30 & 40 in our quart bags. Having had Melanoma twice and a ton of Basal Cells, I don't mess around anymore with not being protected. Also, if you bring an additional quart bag, the TSA most likely won't notice. They're not usually trying to match up the bags with people.

We are going to attempt carry-on only this year too - you can buy sunscreen down there in the larger bottles and just carry-on the travel sizes that you can find at most drugstores or Target to tide you over until you provision.

We use the "No Ad" brand of sunscreen which we get in "de ilons." Doesn't wash off in the water and is highly effective. You may not of heard of it because the company doesn't advertise, hence the name No Ad. We've been using it for years and years and have never gotten a sunburn. I was stopped on way home in stt airport due to a bottle of coppertone in my carry on bag. Security confiscated it and sent me on my way.

As long as it's 3oz, there's no problem.

I take 2 or 3 - 100ml bottles of Sunscreen with me in my carry on, whatever fits into the ziplock. It is Neutrogena brand. When I run out I look for more. I have never had any trouble finding something that works. I do not worry about the brand once I am there. I will for sure look for "No Ad" this time.

Yep, we each bring 2 of the travel size face sunscreens and buy a big thing of whatever looks reasonable for use on arms legs and body when we go shopping. Never had trouble finding something that works. Might pay a few extra bucks, but SOOO worth it to travel light.

We took as many travel sizes as we could carry. We wound up not having to buy any while down there.

We have only done carry on. We each pack a small 3oz bottle to make sure we have something until we get to the store, then buy whatever brand is available. Never had a problem finding the higher spf.

I have Irish skin and bring two containers of Nutrogena SPF 55, conveniently in 3.5oz containers. My lady brings two 3.5oz travel bottles and that works fine. Since I started wearing swim shirts at my dermatologists insistence I use a lot less sunscreen!

Last trip we used Neutrogena Beach Defense SPF50 stick sunscreen. TSA considers it as a solid so you can pack as many as you want. Took a little getting used to, but we have decided we like it as well as any spray or lotion.

TSA rules allow medically necessary over the counter medication as carry on. Sunscreen is regulated by the FDA as an over the counter medication. I have been able to get larger bottles of sunscreen through as carryon by printing out the TSA rule, showing the FDA notice on the bottle of sunscreen and saying that my dermatologist says that due to a history of skin cancer, the sunscreen is necessary (all true).
