Yeah,
It was horrible. Cant see why anyone would want to go back! And because of that, I am willing to make the sacrifice and trade places with anyone who might be going soon! You can spare yourself the pain and misery! LOL

Great videos - esp the footage of the turtles. I've never seen one in the BVI's - yet! (I've seen them in the Turks & Caicos). 2 more days till we start our trip down!

We saw turtles in a few places. I was neat to see them popping their heads up near the boat when moored. Kind of saying "what's up" while checking us out. I didn't know there were that many hawksbill turtles around there. Nice to see. For some reason I thought there may be more greens or loggerheads.

It seems you were not afraid of the barracudas at all. When we see them under our boat we are off the water in less than 3 seconds. Do they never attack?

Barracudas get a bad rap because they look so ferocious. Much like musky in fresh water. It's the teeth that freak people out. You are fine in the water with them. They are cool. Enjoy them. I have had a few follow me when I was scuba diving before. But it was more like a little brother annoying me. Now, my wife wanted nothing to do with them so of course we let her know when a 5 footer was right under her when she was swimming.

I have diving for over 40 years. I have never heard of a barracuda attack. They love shading under boats.

Barracudas are the overfed dogs of the neighborhood. They hang out, docile and bored, looking for something interesting. I love the large pair that hang out behind the boats at Cooper. They hang out like they are watching TV.

I have read that big ones attack swimmers/divers from time to time. Seems like this is not true.

But nevertheless is there any trick to make them go away from under the boat? My guests on the boat will probably never believe that they are not dangerous and that they will only play and not bite :-)

maybe she should do some research, it would ashamed if she came to BVI and did not get in the water because of barracuda. Where did you read that Cudas attack swimmers?

I forgot where I read it but Wiki says something similar even though it may be very rare:

Hey SUNBVI:
Bottom line is you don't have to worry about them. Jump in and enjoy. Swim towards one and watch it slowly swim away from you. I have seen a video of a goliath grouper grabbing a guys arm. But I sure don't think people are afraid of grouper. It is all psychological. I am sure there is an instance of a barracuda that mistook something shiny on a diver and went for it. It is not a reason to fear them at all. Enjoy them. Don't let them ruin a trip or a swim/snorkel.
