pirates @ norman - 03/10/2015 12:56 AM

I have to follow up on my abysmal review of pirates when they reopened.

NIGHT and DAY...except the bushwhackers were better...

First, the awful 6500k BRIGHT lighting is gone, replaced with the exception of a handful, with nice warm 4500k warm lighting...

Holy Moly, the service is not island style at all, attentive and proactive. almost had to say "chill". Our last (first week after opening) took 1 hour to first drink, two hours to salad).

portions are HUGE. salads are FANTASTIC, art to the eyes. Linda and eye were looking at everything going by saying "Oh, I wish I would have gotten that". I had the ba-ba ribs...full rack...yep smile

I can't wait to try Wonky Dog on our next trip, but the winds/waves/swells were not favorable.

Nice to hear a positive review. Will check them out when we are there in July. Last trip they were closed.

We had a similar experience there a couple weeks back. Definitely a top notch spot. We had a party of 10 (4 adults and 6 kids) and they handled the group easily. Beach games kept kids busy and allowed the adults to have a nice dinner. Large Jenga game made out of 2x6 boards near waters edge.

Will be tops on our list next time down.

Cheers

We had a great time there last July on s/v Mardi Gras. Food was great, look at the calamari portion below and crispy like I like it! Plenty of activities for young and old kids!

The food and service at Pirates is excellent. In fact, the service can be a little over the top at times. The young lady who served us on the beach before and after our lunch last week was actually a little too attentive.

Everything we had was scrumptious. I think they are doing a fabulous job but they really do need to dial it back on the service just a tad. It's almost (but not quite) annoying.

When I saw the appetizers come out for a large table, I thought they had ordered doubles on one plate.

Agree that the service was just a little too much, but that is a hundred miles away from where it was. Glad we tried it again. They got the price/value equation in check.

Great to hear. We've been happy hour only there since reconstruction. My lady prefers to eat on land, but things were looking pretty grim for a while.

We were there on February 13th and the reviews were mixed. We actually had such a great lunch, service and drinks that we decided to go back for dinner.

Dinner was quite the opposite. We sat south of the bar opposite of the one man band. Music was great with plenty dancing, but loud to the point where we couldn't carry a conversation on the other side of the room. Service was miserably slow, food was less than so-so to the point where I don't even remember what anyone had. Portions were large, but I wouldn't say tasty by any means.

Thumbs up for lunch, thumbs down for dinner.

We haven't been since last June and it was pretty good, but will try it again in a couple weeks.
